Position Title: Graduation Coach
Reports To: Principal
Primary Function:
To ensure the successful transition of all students from elementary to middle school, from middle to high school and from high school into some form of post-secondary education or work. A comprehensive prevention/intervention process for students at-risk of grade retention, and/or dropping out is the goal. The graduation coach will identify students in need of additional support and work with them to achieve academic success and ensure that identified students receive the resources/services that they need to be guided toward the path of graduation.
Requirements:
Educational Level: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
Certification/Licensing: Georgia Certification in teaching, service or leadership category; three or more years experience in one or a combination of the certificated areas above in secondary schools.
Proficiency Skills: Successful experiences working with secondary at-risk students; Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at risk; Knowledge of and the ability to analyze data; An understanding of the multiplicity of available social services; Knowledge of alternative education opportunities; and written and oral communication skills. Ability to deal with multiple tasks, computer competence, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Personal Skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties. Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.
GENERAL
1. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
2. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of internet and email as applicable to job responsibilities.
3. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of other computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.
4. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.

20. Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues.
21. Demonstrates loyalty to the school system and administration.
GRADUATION COACH
22. Collects data and prepares reports associated with the position as required by local, state and federal agencies.
23. Utilizes the components of a profile of characteristics of potential dropouts developed by GADOE to identify middle or high school students with the high probability of retention or not graduating.
24. Collaborates with feeder elementary or middle school(s) to utilize the components of a profile of characteristics of potential dropouts developed by the GADOE to identify middle school students with the high probability of not graduating.
25. Employs the GADOE School Improvement Data Utilization Guide to identify students scoring within a band of 5% above and 5% below proficiency levels.
26. Employs the GADOE School Improvement Data Utilization Guide to identify students scoring significantly below proficiency levels.
27. Conducts an analysis that focuses on data for individual students and subgroups such as: 1. State Standardized Tests, National Standardized Tests, Local Records of attendance, behavior, teacher and parent conferences, SST meeting minutes, grade retention records, and records of credits earned.
28. Develops and implements individual intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate.
29. Works with students to develop a graduation and achievement plan to include the best program to meet academic and post-secondary goals.
30. Develops transition programs and vertical teams with elementary, middle and high schools.
31. Develops a “Graduation Team” for each identified student that minimally includes an administrator, two teachers, a counselor and/or school social worker or a representative from a local support or mentoring agency.
32. Connect individual students and their parents with programs such as CIS, Family Connections, Georgia College 411, as well as area Technical Colleges.
33. Develops a local mentoring program with business partners and connects individual students with mentors.
34. Tracks the progress of individual and subpopulations of students as they progress toward graduation.
35. Provides training to parents of students identified as being at risk of retention or not graduating.
36. Provides training to middle school and high school teachers on support measures that work with youth identified as at risk of not graduating and the youth’s parents/guardians.
37. Works with faculty and administrators to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of identified at risk students.
38. Identifies and links area social agencies with youth at risk of retention or not graduating and their parents/guardians.
39. Trains middle and high school teachers on the components of an effective “teachers as advisors” program.
40. Conducts quarterly vertical team meetings among elementary, middle and high school faculty and staff to develop action steps to improve individual student and subgroup transition success rate.
41. Attends, participates, and redelivers as appropriate all required Graduation Coach training provided by GADOE and/or its collaborative partners.
42. Develops partnerships with community organizations to support the goals of the high school graduation initiative.
43. Conducts and analyzes on-going formative and summative evaluation data of program effectiveness.
44. Provides and/or submits reports to GADOE as scheduled and requested.
