      JOB SUMMARY

      Utilizes horticulture skills to perform vegetation management and stormwater control measure operation and maintenance skills to perform site management and general maintenance activities at District Green Infrastructure sites (GI), stormwater project sites, and along the Regional Stormwater System (RSS). Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      - Horticulture Site Management at all District GI and Stormwater Project Sites

      • Performs tree and shrub horticulture activities, including assessing trees and shrubs for overall health and function.

      • Performs staking and tying trees & vegetation, weeding, pruning, trimming, watering, edging / mulching, mowing, and placing protective materials to protect trees from wildlife, human activity, equipment, and harsh weather conditions.

      • Performs tree and vegetation remediation and replacement, as necessary.

      • Performs planting of trees, shrubs, perennial plants, and live stake plant material, as necessary.

      • Performs invasive species management using pesticides and herbicides, while following proper application procedures.

      - Green Infrastructure/Stormwater Site Management

      • Assists in site management at green infrastructure and stormwater facilities, including assessing sites for overall vegetation and stormwater management function, picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles at sites, and removing sediment and/or woody debris impacting site function or impacting RSS conveyance.

      • Maintains site furnishings and hardscape areas through cleaning, sweeping, leaf blowing.

      • Assists with in-house GI and stormwater maintenance projects as needed.

      • Organizes and maintains field equipment as needed.

      - Work Order and Asset Management Assistance for GI and Stormwater Project Sites

      • Assists with conducting dry weather and wet weather field inspections, field maintenance projects utilizing field equipment and filling out field inspection forms.

      • Assists with preparing, finalizing, and organizing field inspection and field maintenance close out forms and project inspection photos in office.

      • Utilize geographic information system (GIS) and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) applications to conduct data entry, which includes asset inventory, field notes, and timekeeping.

      • Attend Watershed Programs Department and other general District office meetings.

      • Maintains good public relations and professionalism in interactions with internal and external stakeholders and customers. • Undergo safety training and other District required training, as necessary.

      - Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

      MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

      EDUCATION

      Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.

      EXPERIENCE

      Candidate should possess one (1) year of horticultural, landscaping and/or stormwater control measure operation and maintenance knowledge of methods, materials and tools to perform general maintenance work.

      OTHER REQUIREMENTS

      LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

      - Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the District’s acceptable guidelines.

      - National Green Infrastructure Program Certification or Inspection & Maintenance Certification for Stormwater Control Measures in Ohio or equivalent is preferred.

      - Candidate must have knowledge of herbicide safety, use, and application or possess knowledge within one (1) year of being hired.

      - Candidate must have tree stewardship training within one (1) year of being hired.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

      - Candidate must have knowledge in broad range of horticulture skills such as tree pruning, basic tree and plant health assessment, tree and shrub staking and tree trunk protection, plant thinning methods, or possess knowledge within one (1) year of being hired.

      - Candidate must have knowledge of green infrastructure and stormwater control measures function and maintenance.

      - Candidate must possess knowledge in the use of basic hand tools and other field equipment, and must become proficient, within one (1) year of being hired, in the use and safety of power equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws and power edger.

      - Candidate must possess the ability to be reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.

      PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

      During the course of performing the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to compare, compute, analyze, synthesize, copy, compile, coordinate, negotiate and instruct. Ability to communicate while exhibiting strong interpersonal skills is required. Physical work will need to be performed, such as standing, sitting, balancing, kneeling, crawling, handling, feeling, hearing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, fingering, talking and control of others. Position often requires walking to different areas of large project sites. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. Position will require visual demands of near acuity, depth perception, far acuity, color vision and accommodation. The employee may be exposed to quiet, loud noises and very loud noises depending on exposures that vary daily. While working in the field the employee may be exposed to extreme weather, extreme heat that is non-weather related, atmospheric conditions, vibrations, extreme cold that is non-weather related, wet and/or humid, hazards and confined/restricted working environments. This position is a safety sensitive position and may require employees to perform manual labor involving in maintaining, repairing, constructing, and cleaning the collection system, including storm water and sanitary sewer lines, siphon structures, vaults, manholes, catch basins, and other collection system facilities. They will also be working in and adjacent to traffic, working in and around permit-required confined spaces, or working over open manholes and hatches.

      Pay Range: USD, Commensurate with Experience

      $20.39 - $24.47 hourly
