Job Description

- Execute all aspects of Sugar beet seedling production; including, but not limited to soil mixing and tray preparation, planting, transplanting and plant maintenance.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining plant health by performing tasks such as watering, fertilizing, pruning, and disease/pest management.
- Execute leaf tissue sampling.
- Conduct hand crosses in the greenhouse per the specifications set by plant breeders, including emasculating, pollinating, harvesting and seed peeling.
- Prepare stacks and seedlings for spring transplanting in field productions.
- Keep accurate records of planting and transplanting activities, plant inventory, hand cross activities, selection lists and staging of seedlings and stacks.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow greenhouse technicians and other team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Asist in training and supervising of temporary workers on the standard operating procedures per project.
- Ensure the Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures and safety policies are followed, and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
- Assist other station groups as needed.
- Occasionally travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
- Meet attendance requirements.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Accurate eyesight and ability to use tweezers and other small tools.
- Ability to work variable hours, including occasional weekends as required by the business.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter and within a team with flexibility.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to detail.
- Experience in a research greenhouse environment.
- Experience in organizing and giving direction in a hand cross program.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to apply for pesticide applicator license.
- Computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft office.

Perform indoor and occasionally outdoor work in variable conditions including heat, cold, dust, wind and rain. Greenhouse and field environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals. Occasional overnight travel as needed, including international.Physical Demands:
