  Summary

  The Grocery Assistant Manager assists the Grocery Manager with key Grocery department operations and profitability. Responsible for promoting store profitability by keeping cases and shelves fully stocked.

  The Grocery Assistant Manager promotes Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by greeting every customer with a smile, offering assistance and answering questions.

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  Assist in training, motivating, and leading the Grocery team, providing feedback as needed. Maintain effective communication with the Grocery Manager, monitor employee performance, and assist with annual performance reviews.

  Work with the Grocery Manager to monitor sales in order to efficiently order products.

  Accurately and efficiently merchandise and rotate products, according to department and store standards.

  Efficiently and accurately stock product onto shelves, rotating for freshness. Build effective product displays.

  Ensure freshness, wholesomeness, and consistency of product.

  Maintain and document accurate product inventory.

  Assist the Grocery Manager with monitoring costs in order to maintain accurate pricing, work with vendors and suppliers on deals, displays, product quality, and credits, as needed and directed.

  Manage shrink through effective employee training, product rotation, and accurate receiving.

  Maintain a clean and organized workspace, take out plastic and cardboard recycling. Maintain proper sanitation in the warehouse, freezer, coolers, and sales floor.

  Supervisory Responsibilities

  Provide department supervision as needed to ensure excellent customer service and personal and team productivity.

  Financial Responsibilities

  Minimize department losses due to improper product handling, storage, damage and spoils.

  Other Responsibilities

  Act at the main point of contact for the Grocery when the Manager is off.

  Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company property, resources, and image.

  Review special orders as they come in, staying up to date with deadlines, ordering products, and communicating with customers as necessary.

  Pre-book orders through UNFI, working with the Grocery Manager, Assistant Store Director and Store Director to ensure adequate orders are placed.

  Oversee department sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and fixtures.

  Work cooperatively with other departments.

  Other duties as assigned.

  Requirements

  Qualifications

  High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

  Prior stock and/or grocery store/retail experience required.

  Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

  Must be able to work independently and as a team, have solid problem solving skills and excellent decision making capabilities.

  Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize and efficiently perform duties.

  Must be willing to learn the characteristics and qualities of the products and services Mackenthun's offers.

  Must have an interest in food and promoting Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience for customers and coworkers.

  Express a positive attitude, focus on customer needs and provide excellent customer service.

  Must be able to effectively speak, understand and write the English Language. Must be able to communicate professionally and respectfully with manager, co-workers and customers.

  Windows operating system computer skills, including the use of Google Workspace required.

  Physical Demands

  Constant standing/walking/talking/hearing and seeing 100% of the time. Frequent bending at waist, reaching arms length/above shoulders/below waist, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, and lifting 50 lbs. and pulling/pushing up to 2000 lbs. with use of pallet jack. This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision.

  Equipment Used

  Including but not limited to inventory/ordering guns, non-electric pallet jack, forklift, carts, computer, baler, box cutter, walk in cooler.

  Work Environment

  Must be able to work constantly in a refrigerated cooler of 30 degrees and a freezer of -20 degrees. Employees work as a team and individually in a smoke-free facility with a multifaceted and fast paced environment. Possible exposure to cleaning chemicals.
