Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is hailed as “cultural ambassador to the world” by the U.S. Congress and is renowned for its stellar performances, high-caliber dance training, and innovative educational initiatives which reach nearly 500,000 people around the globe each year.

AileyCamp New York is a fun-filled six-week summer day camp where young people ages 11-14 learn to dance and explore their creativity. The program helps youth develop their self-confidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect and trust. Campers take dance classes from experienced teaching artists in popular styles such as West African, jazz, ballet and the Lester Horton technique (which is the basis of many of Alvin Ailey’s works). Campers also participate in workshops to build leadership and communication skills and attend field trips. AileyCamp New York takes place from July 1 - August 11, 2025.

Responsibilities for the Group Leaders include:

      • Attend all camp classes and activities with an assigned group Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, providing general supervision of campers
      • Assist dance instructors or facilitators with classroom management, monitor camper's behavior and report individual campers’ counseling needs to the Guidance Counselor.
      • Assist campers with class content, dance skills, choreography and activities as needed.
      • Participate in lunch duty, free periods, field trip days, seminars, and general supervision of campers when not assisting a class.
      • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and individual meetings with the AileyCamp New York Director.
      • Participate in field trip activities when the regular curriculum is not scheduled.
      • Assist faculty members as needed in the creation of the end-of-camp performance, i.e. participate in rehearsals, preparation and day-of-final performance activities.
      • Participate in all rehearsal, preparation, and day-of final performance activities at Hostos on Monday, August 11th.
      • Dress in the AileyCamp staff uniform.

The Group Leaders will be supervised by the AileyCamp New York Director.

The Group Leaders will be required to participate in a background check, including but not limited to federal and sex offender checks, fingerprinting, and courses required for certification.
