Job Description

- Staff our syringe services program, assess client needs, educate clients, and provide referrals.
- Assist with our MOUD program, help participants complete grant-required surveys, and develop educational materials.
- Write grant reports, attend grant meetings, monitor work plan deliverables
and inventory, and order necessary supplies. - Act as a liaison to community organizations, attend relevant community meetings, internal meetings, and networking events.
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, nursing, behavioral/social science, or an approved related field.
- Four years or more of experience performing community health assessment activities.
- Experience:
- Working in a syringe services program, chemical health program, or other behavior health programming.
- Participating in multidisciplinary or community initiatives to improve community health.
- Implementing a harm reduction approach when working with clients.
- Ability to:
- Develop effective working relationships with diverse customers of internal and external organizations.
- Successfully apply diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices to reduce racial and ethnic disparities.
- Knowledge of local resources for relevant referrals.

Hennepin County Public Health's Red Door Clinic is seeking a Harm Reduction Specialist to join their team. This position is embedded within the Red Door Clinic and works closely with administrative, outreach, and clinical staff to coordinate care for program participants and clinic patients. The Harm Reduction Specialist will be expected to counsel participants around their substance use goals and connect them to social and behavioral health programs, which may or may not include substance use treatment. Additionally, this person will provide one to one naloxone/Narcan education as well as educate in group settings to other professionals, community members, and organizations. This position is primarily clinic-based with some potential for outreach to communities disproportionately affected by the opioid epidemic.
The Red Door syringe services program is a small, dynamic team of individuals providing walk-in syringe exchange, naloxone distribution, wound care, and medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) services.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Human Services Center at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
