      Job Summary

      Accountable for providing leadership across the operating environment bringing operational, managerial and administrative procedures, reporting structures and operational controls to the Cash Management and Custody businesses Pan Africa. This role will foster growth among the executive team and employees, by ensuring the business is focused on value creating priorities while increasing the overall efficiency of the business. This role is responsible for the facilitation of the business strategy across the Cash Management business and align all key activities to achieving the business strategy. A key focus for this role will include ensuring that the business has the internal systems, procedures and the appropriate infrastructure to support the geographically dispersed teams and achieving a high functioning organization within prescribed risk parameters.

      Key accountabilities

      Accountability: Strategy Implementation

      • Translate the overall Cash Management strategy into key deliverables across Pan-Africa and work with the BU leadership team across regions and sectors in order to build the execution plans.
      • Orchestrate and coordinate the strategic process and ensure appropriate dissemination of strategy into the organization.
      • Implementing the right operational processes in order to ensure the successful implementation of the strategy.
      • Responsible for future thinking and driving innovation within the Cash Management business across the Pan-Africa landscape
      • Sets standards and provide frameworks and methodologies for customer segmentation and to enable the design of outside-in lead customer value propositions.
      • Provide support to sectors and regions to outline detailed business plans to deepen presence in existing markets, where acquisitive options are considered. Business plans need to be fact based, including an outline of the external market opportunity, the regulatory environment and the competitor landscape, as well as an assessment of Absa’s internal capabilities to execute the plan effectively;
      • Specific focus on integrating the Cash Management Pan-Africa business to ensure consistent systems and processes are implemented and aligned across the business.

      • Translating the business vision into a set of clear and actionable initiatives.
      • Accountable for the delivery of a differentiated internal user experience through the provision of frameworks, methodologies, standards, principles and specialist advice to inform user experience design.
      • Implementing the operating model across the enablement services teams in order to support the broader Cash Management Pan-Africa strategy & operations.
      • Drive the right levels of business engagement with key stakeholders in order to ensure that the business enablement business function supports the business appropriately.
      • Actively lead the tracking of targets and provide insightful data points on business performance
      • Utilise external networks to provide insight into business issues, cost management and aligning targets to external benchmarks to drive performance.
      • Lead the development and implementation of service model improvement initiatives across the client lifecycle / key client journeys (service delivery structure, processes, systems and sales channels, re-engineer client processes and transform organisational culture to enhance client service delivery);
      • Articulate rationale for business performance at senior forums, demonstrating implications to business, presenting options and confidently responding to challenges;

      Accountability: Business Management and Enablement

      • Oversee the implementation of strategic and tactical solutions that support the delivery and the execution of change in pursuance of business performance objectives
      • Oversee the planning and execution of the Cash Management Pan-Africa strategy and enable the measurement and reporting of its effects on business performance. Ensure remedial action if and when required;
      • Understand the various Cash Management strategies and consistently align the division’s strategy and service offering, to meet the business demand;
      • Researching and benchmarking of the service offering of the Cash Management to ensure that it is constantly at the forefront of technology, skill and delivers the best of breed services that enable the business strategy
      • Allocate, contract and measure operational targets to each of the department heads to ensure realization of contracted service offering within approved budget;
      • Accountable for the business enablement services that drive and support productivity including finance, legal, risk, marketing & communications and other related key business enablement / supporting functions across the Cash Management Pan-Africa business;
      • Drive the development and tracking of tactical plans and scoreboards and take corrective actions

      where required;

      • Drive sustainable cost and processing efficiencies through continuous innovation.

      Accountability: Risk Management and Governance

      • Be the custodian of the risk and issue classification standard and extend the policy Pan Africa across cash management and custody propositions
      • Together with the Cash Management leadership team determine the risk profile by ensuring alignment to the group profile, regulatory and governance requirements;
      • Review the risk management practices within this function and the broader Cash Management business and highlight areas that require improvements to business leaders in Cash Management Exco;
      • Compile risk attestations and manage the process and status;
      • Take accountability for the assigned principal risks in terms of the Cash Management’s Pan-Africa operational risk management framework;
      • Ensure that adequate controls are in place within the business;
      • Drive a culture of proactive compliance in the business;
      • Determine action plans to effectively reduce and manage risk issues related to internal audit findings, management assurance findings, compliance issues and operational risk;
      • Actively drive the completion of actions and review the issue assurance testing conducted on all closed items;
      • Review the risk management practices of the function as a whole and highlight areas that require improvement to leaders in the team. Ensure all colleagues understand their responsibility for risk ownership;

      Accountability: People and Culture

      • Ensure adequate monitoring of risk metrics, assessments and work with the team to develop corrective actions;
      • Inspire teams (across geographies and functions) to work together to achieve the strategic vision by building, leading, managing and motivating high performing global teams (including virtual teams) to high standards and excellence.
      • Encourage teams to achieve stretch targets through their personal development and management of their careers.
      • Provide clear strategic direction to the team whilst ensuring Absa guiding principles are communicated and upheld.
      • Create sense of urgency and excitement around the vision and values and ensure individuals actions, processes and practices are aligned.
      • Grow business leaders in the function by supporting them to make the transition from operational general management to strategic holistic contributions across geographies.
      • Ensure the practical and effective implementation of group standards for formal performance development.
      • Ensure the establishment and regular update of succession plans for key and high risk roles in the function.
      • Ensure that this function’s transformation objectives are aligned, incorporated and support the Cash Management Pan Africa and broader group transformation objectives
      • Oversee overall business enablement’s talent management process on an annual basis.
      • Manage and review workforce plans for the function and reallocate resources where required in line with the overall Cash Management Pan-Africa strategy.

      Role/person specification

      Education and experience required

      • minimum b-degree (NQF level no.7). A post graduate degree (NQF level no.8+) will be advantageous

      • 10+ years (senior leadership) experience

      Knowledge and skills: (maximum of 6)

      • Comprehensive understanding of Cash Management business
      • Experience of managing teams
      • Stakeholder management on a senior and executive management level.
      • Banking and financial services industry related experience
      • Experience of working in a multinational, multi-segment, environment with matrix reporting. Awareness of cultural differences and varying legal/regulatory environments.
      • Solid/expert knowledge of Cash Management products
