      A Day in the Life…
      The Head Coach, Rowing, is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of all phases of a high-performance varsity Men’s and Women’s Rowing program through an integrated student athlete support team approach that pursues provincial and national prominence and enhances the reputation of the University. The Head Coach is a leader in rowing operations, including the planning, strategic development, coaching, recruiting, staffing, budget development and monitoring, marketing, community engagement, stewards/cultivates row alumni and pursues annual fundraising opportunities for the Brock’s rowing program. The Head Coach, Rowing serves as an effective spokesperson for the rowing program, promoting and enhancing the image of both the rowing program and the University, both on campus and off campus at a national level. The Head Coach, Rowing will personify the values of Brock Sports exemplifying equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of student athlete development in a safe sport environment.

      As the Head Coach, Rowing, you will:

      • Be responsible for the overall development of a student-athlete high performance rowing program, with the implementation of an approved yearly program (YTP) (including a detailed outline of daily, weekly and monthly practice plan, competition plans with a description of load and intensity that exemplifies a commitment to athlete skill development, student-athlete centred culture and philosophy, tactical competitive strategies, statistical analysis and regular on-going athlete feedback and evaluation)
      • Lead in YTP planning with the support of Brocks Sports Performance and Medicine staff including an integration of sport science program elements (i.e., strength and conditioning, sport psychology, sport medicine prevention and therapy, individual rehabilitation plans, etc.);
      • Collaborates with BSP/BSM in providing sports science nutrition expertise to provide educational programming to ensure the healthy well-being of student-athletes taking part in rowing as a weight-class sport;
      • Support student-athletes by collaborating with Brock Sports Student-Athlete Services, on balancing the athletic and academic student experience, including an integration of existing academic and support resources (i.e. Brock Sports Study Hall and/or Learning services, Student Life, etc.).
      • Responsible for the development, implementation and execution of an ongoing comprehensive five (5) year strategic rowing student-athlete recruitment and retention plan that includes the integration and synergy of the Rowing Club;
      • Lead the overall process of recruitment, ensuring prospect identification, ongoing written and verbal communication letters of intent (LOI) and the provision of allocation of student athletic financial awards;
      • Ensure all recruiting regulations are in accordance with the University, Brock Sports, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and other regulations and policies as applicable;
      • Develop, implement, and monitor the overall annual program plan for the Rowing program that is aligned with the yearly training programs for student athelete development (i.e., community engagement events, fundraising initiatives, camps alumni events, student athlete recognition/graduation, etc.);
      • Manage the overall program administration and operations of the rowing program to ensure effective organization of all team operation related activities, including but not limited to the organization and implementation/hosting of regattas, training camps, practice sessions, team travel, logistics of equipment/fleet transport, maintenance and repair of equipment/fleet;
      • Develop and execute partnership and fundraising plans that includes collaborating with Brock Sports & Recreation staff to develop and implement community outreach programs that support recruitment and participant development in the sport of rowing for the community and Niagara Region and
      • Hire, train, support, develop, mentor, evaluate performance and manage assistant Rowing coach(es), as well as part-time and volunteer positions that support rowing operations.

      What you need to Succeed…

      • A University degree in a related field combined with Performance Coach certificate (formerly Level III NCCP Coaching Certificate) or an equivalent combination of education and coaching experience;
      • Transport Canda Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate, Safe Sport Certification, Current First Aid & CPR, Valid Drivers Licence, and Rowans Law Concussion Protocols;
      • A minimum of three (3) years of successful coaching experience, preferably in a head coach position, at the post-secondary or National level or equivalent;
      • A minimum of three (3) years of Recruiting experience and knowledge of the Canadian rowing system;
      • Strong technical background and practical experience in coaching rowing at a highly competitive level
      • Knowledge of coaching principles and practices with the ability to plan a five (5) year continuous timeframe;
      • Knowledge of OUA/CURA (Canadian University Rowing Assoc), Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) and University regulations and policies;
      • Knowledge of the University athletic environment and University athletic recruiting;
      • Experience managing finances and budget;
      • Ability to nurture, guide, teach, motivate and inspire student athletes and coaching staff;
      • Ability to deal with challenging situations, some of which may arise during travel and
      • Proven organizational, leadership, and management skills.

      • Safe Sport Training.

      Salary and Benefit Information

      • Job Grade (M), Salary Scale ($68,600-$117,600)*;
      • Target Hiring Range: $68,600-$85,000
      • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

      *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
