      What is the opportunity?

      The Head of Data Protection, Europe & APAC works with key business and Compliance leaders to promote demonstrable compliance with data protection and privacy regulations, across all RBC businesses in Europe, UK and APAC.

      Reporting to RBC’s Chief Privacy Officer, this role leads a team of Data Protection Officers who provide advice, oversight and challenge to RBC businesses and functional groups throughout the region, to ensure appropriate protection of personal information of RBC clients and employees.

      What will you do?

      • Oversee compliance with applicable data protection laws and RBC’s Enterprise Privacy Risk Management Policy;
      • Drive a culture of privacy by advocating for appropriate safeguarding of personal information, privacy by design, and integration of the RBC privacy principles across the region;
      • Manage, develop and lead a team of Data Protection Officers to ensure appropriate oversight of all businesses and functional groups, including branches and subsidiaries;
      • Provide a quarterly assessment/opinion on the risk profile of the businesses within the region;
      • Represent the Privacy function on internal and external committees, including actively participating as a member of the Global Privacy and Compliance Senior Leadership teams;
      • Utilize the open and effective channels within Global Privacy Office and the Compliance function, for the escalation and reporting of issues requiring attention; and
      • Ensure the reporting of Privacy breaches in a timely and appropriate manner to the local data protection authority and/or impacted data subject.

      What do you need to succeed?

      Must-have
      • Expertise in privacy, regulatory compliance, or regulatory risk management practices
      • Experience in senior roles within financial institutions
      • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment
      • Proven effective stakeholder and communication skills
      • University degree in law, business, finance or a related field

      Nice-to-have
      • Privacy Accreditation (IAPP)
      • J.D. or L.L.M.
