      The Head of Global Oncology Policy & Advocacy is an important leadership position at AstraZeneca, you will be responsible for directing the company’s strategy and resources. In addition, you will work closely with country offices and external stakeholders to help health systems and AstraZeneca succeed in transforming Oncology care.

      This opportunity will play a pivotal role in catalysing policy change and access to early cancer detection and treatment across markets - for the benefit of cancer patients, healthcare systems and AstraZeneca.

      Furthermore, you will work closely with Global Functions (e.g. Access, Medical, Commercial), Oncology Business Unit Heads in key markets (incl. Japan, US, China, Brazil, EU5/Canada), the Government Affairs teams and with your peers in the Global Policy group.

      Responsibilities:

      Building and sustaining an industry-leading Oncology Policy & Advocacy function by ;

      • Leading a team with the aim of significantly advancing policies and strengthening advocacy in support of the earlier detection of cancer.
      • Leading a team to advance policies that strengthen and advocate for timely and accurate diagnosis, access to and investment for innovative treatment, thus contributing to AstraZeneca’s ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death.
      • Setting and realizing the highest possible standards of excellence, by ensuring that you and your team’s work is most effective, aligned with business priorities and supported by external and internal stakeholder’s agendas.
      • Developing and coaching a top team, by managing carbon and project budgets with precision, diligence and foresight.

      Developing, implementing and overseeing integrated policy & advocacy strategies in key tumor types and at the pan-tumor level by:

      • Working with your team to establish multi-year policy shaping and advocacy objectives and implementation plans, based on a close collaboration with key stakeholders internally and externally.
      • Executing against these plans, being co-accountable with priority markets to realize goals at the local level.
      • Setting up platforms and partnerships at the above-country level (e.g., with patient advocacy groups (PAGs), clinical societies, public health experts, academia, policymakers) to facilitate high quality policy evidence-generation and stakeholder engagement to support policy & advocacy programmes and objectives at local, regional, and global levels.
      • Leveraging AstraZeneca relationships with supra-national organizations and internal capabilities to advance the oncology policy & advocacy agenda.

      Patient engagement & advocacy

      · Lead how AstraZeneca engages with PAGs across tumor types, establishing the framework of reference for all activities related to patient group engagement and advocacy in Oncology, in coordination with other functions and with regional & market-based teams.

      · Ensure patient representative’s voices are understood and acted on internally and are considered externally (e.g. in HTA or pricing & reimbursement deliberations), as appropriate.

      · Under your leadership, AstraZeneca will strengthen its relationships with PAGs and empower PAGs to engage and unlock better and more equitable access to early cancer detection and treatment.

      Essential requirements:

      • 10-15+ years’ experience in oncology
      • Experience / track record of successful projects realized across global markets, incl. USA, China, EU5, Japan
      • Leadership capability with strong self-awareness and ability to identify winning strategies and solutions for multiple stakeholders and AstraZeneca
      • Strategic thinker and ability to comprehend complex matters and chart a clear path forward
      • Hard working, resistant to stress, ability to pull self and team up and forward, to win no matter what
      • Work effectively in a matrix organization
      • Self-starting, independent, entrepreneurial attitude – a smart risk-taker who thrives on new challenges and on seeing things through to completion
      • Eagerness and ability to collaborate with and mobilize different people and organizations
      • Ability to communicate highly effectively with Sr. Leadership, peers, as well as with a variety of stakeholders
      • Profound knowledge in the field of oncology and in how health systems operate
