Backed by top-tier investors and led by world-class scientists, this company is integrating proteomics, synthetic biology, and AI-driven discovery to develop transformative therapies.

      The Role

Our client is seeking a Head of Preclinical & Translational Research to lead the development and translational strategy for biologics and cell therapy programs across multiple therapeutic areas. This is a critical leadership role, working cross-functionally with discovery, clinical, and computational teams to advance novel therapies from early research through IND-enabling studies and first-in-human trials.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Develop and execute preclinical and translational research strategies for biologics and cell therapy programs targeting oncology, cardiometabolic, neurodegenerative, and inflammatory diseases.
      • Lead in vivo and in vitro pharmacology, mechanism-of-action studies, and biomarker discovery to inform clinical development.
      • Oversee IND-enabling studies, ensuring robust preclinical packages for regulatory submissions.
      • Establish and validate disease models and functional assays to assess efficacy, safety, and patient selection strategies.
      • Build and mentor a high-performing translational research team, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
      • Work closely with clinical, regulatory, and bioinformatics teams to define translational strategies and biomarker-driven clinical approaches.
      • Drive partnerships with CROs, academic collaborators, and industry partners to accelerate development timelines.

      Qualifications:

      • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with 10+ years of industry experience.
      • Proven track record in biologics and/or cell therapy development, with experience leading programs from discovery through IND submission.
      • Deep expertise in immune-oncology, engineered cell therapies, antibody-based therapeutics, or gene-modified cell platforms.
      • Strong understanding of disease mechanisms and translational approaches in oncology, cardiometabolic diseases, neurodegeneration, and inflammation.
      • Leadership experience, with a history of building and managing cross-functional research teams.
      • Experience in fast-paced biotech environments with a track record of driving programs to the clinic.
      • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for IND submissions and early-stage clinical trial design.

      The Benefits:

      • Based in the Bay Area
      • Competitive salary of $250-300,000 pa and extensive benefits package
      • Progression opportunities – Chance to get on the ground floor with a well-funded and rapidly expanding Biotech
