What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform accurate and timely quality reviews of internal and vendor coding team members using appropriate code sets and coding guidelines
- Develop and provide coding education to internal and vendor coding team members based on quality review outcomes
- Review and respond to coding-based denials and perform clinical validation of appeal letters as needed
- Compile and track statistics related to coding quality reviews and follow up on outcomes
- Serve as a subject matter expert for coding denials, providing guidance and education to coding staff and other hospital departments
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder - Payer (CPC-P), Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPCH)
- Previous experience in coding
- Strong knowledge of coding standards, protocols, and workflows
- Ability to analyze denied claims and identify trends for education
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in a healthcare coding role within a hospital or healthcare system
- Familiarity with EPIC software or similar coding systems
- Previous involvement in training or onboarding new coding staff
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines related to coding and billing
- Strong analytical skills to assess coding trends and outcomes
