      Position Details:

      Summary of Duties:

      The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized pollinator research and Extension program. Research should emphasize pollinator best management practices for both native and managed species. The faculty member is expected to develop a statewide, science-based, pollinator education plan to educate beekeepers, agricultural producers, land managers, licensed pesticide applicators, other professionals, and the public focused on agricultural systems in Washington. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in general entomology and other specific courses in their area of expertise, contributing to student recruitment and retention efforts at WSU, and mentoring and supervising graduate students. Programs must be based on stakeholder needs and must effectively integrate research and Extension and be consistent with the mission of the college, CAHNRS, and the WSU Department of Entomology. This position should successfully blend Research and Extension duties. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized, pollinator Extension education and outreach program and develop a statewide, science-based, pollinator education plan to educate beekeepers, agricultural producers, land managers, licensed pesticide applicators, other professionals, and the public focused on agricultural systems in Washington.

      The successful candidate must acquire competitive extramural funding from state, regional, and national agencies and the agricultural industry to support a comprehensive research and Extension program. The incumbent will disseminate information by publishing results in appropriate peer-reviewed journals and through Extension media outlets, delivering presentations at scientific conferences and industry/grower meetings, and using the internet and other modern communication platforms. This person is expected to work collaboratively with other researchers, Extension professionals, private crop consultants, the grower community, and stakeholders.

      Required Qualifications:

      • By the date of hire, earned Ph.D. in entomology or a closely related field, with depth in the discipline and ability to address the breadth of honey bee and pollinator management issues relevant to agriculturally important crops in Washington.

      • Demonstrated record of accomplishments in research and Extension commensurate with career level.

      • Demonstrated teaching experience and commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences in oral and written forms;

      • Record of competitive grant success commensurate with career level;

      • Knowledge of state-of-the-art techniques applicable to honey bee and pollinator health and management research;

      • Demonstrated knowledge of pollinator health applied research, integrated pest management (IPM), and sustainable agricultural systems;

      • Demonstrated record of stakeholder-driven integrated research and extension activities;

      • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.

      In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
