Job Title:
Housing Specialist
Physical Location: Kent State University, Kent, OH
Salary:
$15.64
Basic Function:
Manage student accounts. Identify and actively participates in the resolution of problems. Serve as a resource for student housing applications and assignments. This position reports the assignment and fiscal areas. Reports to a designated supervisor typically within the assignments or fiscal areas.

Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Coordinate/assist in processing housing assignments.
Apply and process housing charges; prepare student records for weekly billing.
Apply charges to student accounts.
Assign and update cohort codes; ensure proper charge schedule associated with student records.
Monitor and process incoming housing applications.
Assist with early arrival tracking/charges and break housing assignments/charges.
Assist students and families with navigating the housing application.
Manage appeals for housing charges; gathers information and make recommendations.
Process housing forfeiture and appeal charges.
Apply and process housing scholarships and waivers.
Serve as primary contact for inquiries regarding assignments; troubleshoot/vet assignment inquires (frontline response; refer and resource).
Communicate with constituents regarding assignments and housing charges; respond to inquiries regarding housing charges.
Receive and direct students through petitions for contract release process; communicate decisions and rationale; and provide reports.
Assist with questions regarding and routing of commuter exemptions; may communicate decisions and rationale.
Communicate with offices regarding student charges (e.g. Bursar, One Stop, and University Dining Services, etc.).
Process conference billing.
Assist with reconciliation of financial transactions (e.g., change fund, deferred income account for housing pre-payments and housing applications fees; p-card reconciliation, break housing charges). Reconciles discrepancies as appropriate.
Performs related duties for assignments and accounting tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent to include course work in accounting/bookkeeping. A minimum of two-years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience.
License/Certification:
Knowledge Of:
Bookkeeping/accounting procedures and terminology
Spreadsheet software packages; specifically Excel *
Office practices and procedures
Standard procedures for alphanumeric filing
Skill In:
The operation of adding machine or calculator and utilizing software and technology *
Oral communication to effectively interact with university personnel and public (e.g., to answer routine questions, to explain policies and procedures, and resolve problems)
Written communication to constituents via email
Customer service and patience with a variety of stakeholders
Ability To:
Navigate and perform functions within designated housing management system
Comprehend and breakdown complex processes to explain to constituents
Locate and correct bookkeeping/accounting errors
Analyze several pieces of information and draw valid conclusions
Define problems, resolve problems independently, and make decisions
Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages) *
Apply policies and procedures
Classify information according to established methods and to maintain accurate records
Read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions
Operate a computer for data entry/retrieval
