- Collaborate with the Department Manager, Division Director, and other department managers within the division to define, shape, and scope the division’s human-centered capability
- Evolve the division’s human-centered capability by proposing and managing capability development
- Develop repeatable services and innovative offerings
- Build and strengthen relationships across the enterprise with the human-centered engineering community and their associated organizations
- Work shape and lead projects consistent with department, division, and MITRE Labs strategies
- Proactively recruit, develop, and support a team with the technical expertise and skills needed for our diverse work program
- Foster an environment and culture of innovation, technical leadership collaboration, camaraderie, and technical quality
- Ensure staff are aligned to high-priority work that leverages their strengths and engages them
- Encourage staff to innovate in a variety of ways, via direct projects, the MITRE Innovation Program, Early Career Research Projects, and other initiatives
- 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, or related degree, 8 years and a Master’s degree, a PhD with 5 years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience
- At least 4-5 years direct experience executing human-centered engineering methods resulting in consumable products in the areas of research, design, and evaluation
- Experience mentoring and coaching staff
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
- 3+ years’ experience in project, technical, and/or management leadership roles
- Experience generating new work and shaping work opportunities
- Strong working knowledge of collaboration technologies, software engineering best practices, and enabling accessibility for inclusive design
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to foster effective working relationships with staff, department management, division leadership, and internal and external customers
- DoD Top Secret clearance

Department Summary:
The Collaboration and Social Computing Department (L178) in the Data and Human Centered Solutions Innovation Center is seeking a qualified Human-Centered Engineer to pilot a new strategic Group Lead position responsible for shaping our division-level strategy, evolving the department’s human-centered capability, ensuring technical excellence of our work, generating and shaping new work, and mentoring talented staff. L178 applies human-centered engineering to software development practices to enable people with diverse abilities to work together effectively across location, time, organization, work practice, and technology. L178 supports a wide range of sponsors and internal customers and is active in MITRE’s research program.
