Overview
Works under the supervision of the Director of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety to maintain and provideoperational and analytical support for the Cone Health environmental health and radiological safety programs.Coordinates plans and conducts programs to educate employees about safety in the workplace. Inspects facilitiesand work areas to prescribe corrective actions to reduce the health risks. Provides advice on methods andprocedures to reduce occupational health risks. Determines measures to avoid any recurrence of accidents.Evaluates facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promotes maintenance of a sanitaryworking environment. Conducts training in environmental compliance and the handling of hazardous materials.Requires a bachelor's degree. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.Common tasks may include collecting samples of highly toxic substances, calibrating and preparing equipmentrequired for collecting samples, reviewing accident reports, evaluating and analyzing samples in the laboratory,drafting reports about the findings related to industrial health problems, documenting results of their research,implementing cost effective analysis to rationalize changes in the process or the purchasing of safety equipment,recommending most beneficial safety techniques, etc.Talent Pool: Corporate Services/Professional
Responsibilities
Coordinate and/or collects samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxicmaterials for analysis. Assists in performing air quality testing, mold testing, and performnoise level elevations. Assists in the management of hazardous waste.Investigates adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, noise, and otherconditions that may affect employee health, comfort, or efficiency. Maintains theorganization?s chemical inventory and SDS program.Conducts evaluations of exposure to ionizing and nonionizing radiation and to noise,and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection. Radiation(microwaves, MRI, electromagnetic fields) assessments.Assist with the training of Cone Health employees in various subjects related to theenvironment of care, life safety, radiation safety, laser safety, magnetic resonancesafety, and hazardous materials. Assessing and controlling lead exposures in theenvironment.Prepare and maintain paper and electronic documents, records, database managementand data to ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate departmental needs.Collaborates with Health and Work and Facilities to institute control and remedialmeasures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions and equipment.Provide assistance in response to chemical exposures, fire alarms, drills, and othersafety- related emergencies. Assist with planning and conducting emergency responsedrills per applicable regulatory standards. Assist in the investigation of employeeaccidents, radiological, chemical, fire and other safety related incidents as needed.Work closely with Construction Management and Facilities Management to ensure LifeSafety Code compliance and NC Radiation Protection Section during construction andrenovation projects. Ensure proper placement of environmental dosimetersPrepares reports including observations, analysis of contaminants, andrecommendations for control and correction of hazards.Attend Environmental Health and Radiation Safety Department meetings as assigned insupporting all safety efforts throughout the Cone Health System.Qualifications
EDUCATION:Required:Bachelor?s degree in environmental science,health physics, industrial hygiene, radiologicalhealth, physics, or related science field.Preferred:Master?s degree or higher inenvironmental science, healthphysics, industrial hygiene,radiological health, physics, orrelated science field. EXPERIENCE:Required:3-5 years experience in health and safetyregulatory compliance required. Familiaritywith relevant regulations and standards (TJC,DHSR, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, NRC, NCRadiation Protection Section) required withemphasis on industrial hygiene, chemicalmanagement, and hazardous wastemanagement. Familiarity with radiation andenvironmental dosimetryPreferred:Experience (>5 years) inregulatory complianceenvironment with (TJC, DHSR,NFPA, OSHA, EPA, NRC, NCRadiation Protection Section)preferred. Work experience withradiation and environmentaldosimetry LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:Valid Drivers LicenseAbout the company
