      POSITION TITLE: Institutional Research Analyst (Grant Funded Position for 19 Months)

      NON-BARGAINING UNIT

      GRADE #12

      PURPOSE
      The Institutional Research Analyst, under the guidance of the supervisor, oversees the collection, analysis, and distribution of university data. This encompasses reporting obligations to federal, state, and local agencies. The analyst holds a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing data integrity and reporting standards to facilitate continuous improvement.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Designs and maintains database and reporting applications across diverse platforms such as SQL and SPSS, ensuring compatibility with the Enterprise System and implementing automated report scheduling.
      • Develops visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders, with a commitment to regularly updating these dashboards.
      • Applies advanced statistical analysis, data mining and various predictive modeling techniques to drive the growth and success of the university.
      • Constructs databases using relevant statistical software to retrieve and analyze data for accuracy and validity.
      • Recommends data sources and database design, providing recommendations for all phases of research projects.
      • Assist in preparation of mandatory reports required by both state and federal entities.
      • Coordinate, collect, and submit data for required external reports including but not limited to CollegeBoard, Petersons, U.S. News and World etc.
      • Assists in administering course evaluations and program assessment tools.
      • Plans, designs, and tests research instrumentation, evaluating data to assess reliability and validity of findings.
      • Communicates complex research methodology and results through formal and informal presentations, both written and oral.
      • Compiles data and generates reports to support the Workforce Development initiatives.
      • Assist with the development and maintenance of VTSU IR webpage.
      • Maintain the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality in handling sensitive institutional data
      • Facilitates structured analysis of qualitative datasets derived from survey findings. • Supports and assists the supervisor on any special projects assigned.

      SUPERVISION RECEIVED
      Direct supervision will be received from the AVP for Institutional Research and Planning.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred, with degree and/or coursework in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, data science, or other related discipline(s) preferred and 2 -4 years of related experience.
      • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels and work as a team.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
      • Minimum experience with relational database management and query writing using SQL or similar tools.
      • Proficiency in the use of data analytics/business intelligence platforms, i.e., Tableau, Microsoft BI.
      • Proficiency in the use of survey management tools, i.e., Explorance and Qualtrics.
      • Familiar with data query tools, statistical analyses, and data management systems.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software, with advanced skills in Excel.
      • Proficiency with institutional research, project management, and enrollment administrative systems.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

      Knowledge:
      • Experience with institutional research policies and best practices
      • Basic statistical analysis and data management
      • Knowledge of accreditation reports
      • Basic understanding and knowledge of workforce development, economic development, and workforce data

      Skills:
      • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
      • Excellent communicator, written and verbal in a variety of environments.
      • Data analysis with tools such as Excel, Access, Tableau, or PowerBI.

      Abilities:
      • Ability to maintain confidential information
      • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocols.
      • Ability to acquire accurate, and reproducible data. • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
      • Assist with reports on regional scans, economic trend and workforce development studies.
