Inequities and health disparities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work: This understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit is the foundation of our college. Temple University College of Public Health’s interprofessional culture fosters collaboration both within and outside the college. We value differences among our faculty and believe that we can better serve and understand our Philadelphia community through the diversity of our individual faculty and our disciplines. Join us in our mission to develop progressive, compassionate researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to build a better tomorrow, grounded in creating the environments and health infrastructure that will make us the healthiest nation. THE POSITION. Temple University College of Public Health is seeking full-time nursing faculty to teach in our Bachelor of Science Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (post-baccalaureate and post-masters) programs. Successful candidates will join a diverse group of nursing faculty experts and clinicians who have invested their careers in assuring practice readiness for future generations of nurses, nurse practitioners, and nurse leaders. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaborative education who can model inclusive and anti-oppressive professional practices. QUALIFICATIONS. Prospective candidates will possess clinical expertise in one or several of a variety of nursing specialties. A graduate degree in nursing, license, and specialty certification is required, as are didactic and clinical teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship experience. Eligibility for academic rank and compensation commensurate with teaching, clinical, and leadership experience. The nursing faculty will teach didactic and clinical courses (as assigned) 9 months per year. THE DEPARTMENT. As of July 2023, Dr. Amita Avadhani has been appointed Chair and Director of the Department of Nursing. This appointment of a national leader in nurse education will provide nursing students an exceptional opportunity to learn in an environment committed to preparing practitioners to face today and tomorrow's clinical challenges. We are also excited to strengthen our already deep ties between the College of Public Health and Temple University Health System. The Department aims to be a leading force in community-engaged, collaborative efforts to achieve health equity and high quality of life for all, preparing a diverse nursing workforce who excel in leadership, practice, research and scholarship. We aspire to provide excellence in academic programming that is responsive to the health needs of individuals and populations within the context of community, defined as a social and physical environment where living occurs. We are committed to the highest level of prevention-oriented and evidence-based caregiving, provided in collaboration with the community and other professionals and disciplines. The Department of Nursing enrolls nearly 500 students annually and offers two accredited programs. Our eight-semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with freshman admission is recognized for its high NCLEX pass rate, clinical affiliations with outstanding healthcare facilities in the Philadelphia area with a service-learning focus. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice program includes post-baccalaureate and post-master’s options with concentrations in Adult Gerontology Primary Care and Family-Individual Across the Lifespan. The post-master’s program prepares graduates for leadership roles in various settings. Expansion of graduate program offerings is anticipated and will include additional DNP specialties, post-master’s certificates, and a direct-entry master’s program for non-nursing college graduates. THE COLLEGE. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education, research, and practice, the CEPH-accredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The College’s research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research, policy and practice, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation and aging. The College is home to the Center for Obesity Research and Education, the Collaborative on Community Inclusion, and an Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education that leads our clinical activities, including forward-looking IPE within the College and throughout the university. The College is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Sponsored Research, and Academic Affairs. Temple’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching provides outstanding programs and one-on-one mentoring to instructors to promote and support excellent teaching. THE UNIVERSITY.
