      PURPOSE OF JOB: To work with classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out child development activities. Work with teacher to instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for elementary school by performing the following duties.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Perform a variety of basic duties to assist the teacher such as but not limited to: typing, filing, duplicating, taking inventory, data entry, administering tests, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, and materials distribution
      2. Assist teachers in team teaching, team planning, as well daily and emergency routines
      3. Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior during various activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school-suspension or in the classroom as required
      4. Assist in preparing of crafts, art, and sensory materials for children
      5. Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers
      6. Accompany teacher on home visits and assist in establishing support with families as needed
      7. Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities
      8. Attend orientation and in-service training sessions and serve as group leader when needed
      9. Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment
      10. Instruct children in practice of room cleanup and personal cleanliness with a goal of developing habits of caring for own self
      11. Other related duties as assigned

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

      • Individuals who wish to become an instructional paraprofessional must meet one of the following qualifications:

        • 60 college credit hours
        • Associate's degree or higher
        • Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013)
        • Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (September 23, 2013 and after)
        • Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
      • Knowledge of the Project Construction Curriculum
      • Skills in working with children and their parents
      • Desire to work with elementary grade children

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Three (3) years successful experience working with elementary school children and their parents
      • Course work in childhood education

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

      Length of work year: 7 hours per day; 5 days/week; 212 days

      Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided.

      KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 8.5% contribution (increasing to 9% effective 1/1/16) is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
