      The Southern Lehigh School District is seeking a total of two (2) experienced educators for the position of INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT to support the 2024 LIBERTY TRAILS SUMMER CAMP program.

      About the Program

      Are you interested in adventure and exploration? Do you like field trips? The Liberty Trails Summer Camp offers participants something new each day. During the fourteen-day camp, the adventure begins at Liberty Bell Elementary School, where participants will learn background information about the day's experience. Then it is off to the buses. Previously, participants have visited Adventure Aquarium, Ashland Coal Mine, Hopewell Furnace, Sandy Hook National Recreation Area, Hawk Mountain, Crystal Caves, Tannersville Cranberry Bog, and more. Sign up today and see what experiences await you. This camp is designed for incoming 3rd through 7th grade students.

      The first day of camp will begin at 8:00 am as campers are greeted at the front office. On most days thereafter, camp will begin at 8:00 am and end between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, depending upon the activity. There is an overnight camp as part of the experience. A parent orientation will be held where camp leaders can answer questions. The program permits a maximum of 50 students and those who have not previously participated in the Liberty Trails Summer Camp will be given priority to attend. Note that the District reserves the right to cancel this camp should extenuating circumstances arise.

      Qualifications

      Candidates will have responsibilities ranging from instructional delivery to providing student behavioral support . Therefore, the ideal candidate will have one or more of the following skills:

      • Experience providing student-specific instruction, especially for special education students including lesson plan review and delivering differentiated and modified instruction either one-on-one or in small group settings.
      • Experience providing student-specific behavioral support, especially for special education students including positive behavior reinforcement, assisting with managing emotions, and supporting personal care needs.
      • Effective student monitoring skills including close supervision of students during mealtime and breaks as well as ensuring a safe learning and exploration environment.
      • Effective communication and collaboration skills with program colleagues and parents are essential for this position.

      Note: Prior experience working with special needs students and/or students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) is highly desirable.

      Candidates must possess the following credentials at the time of employment:
      1. Completed at least 48 post-secondary credits; Associate-level degree or higher preferred; or
      2. High School Diploma/GED Equivalent and a PDE-issued Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators.

      Compensation

      Rate: $17.80/HR [upto 30 HRS/ WK for the two (2) week duration of Camp + Planning & Preparation HRS.]
