      About the Position

      The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is seeking to hire an Internal Auditor to join our team. The Internal Auditor will interact will all levels of DCEO management in evaluating DCEO activities and programs for their impact on communities across the state for economic development and growth. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys helping an organization reach its goals, improve its processes, and comply with laws. This individual will possess the ability to analyze details and communicate results based on the analysis performed. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Serves as an Auditor in Charge on various complex, non-routine audit projects. Plans audit engagements.

      2. As an auditor or rotating auditor, plans audit engagements.

      3. As an auditor or rotating auditor, analyzes and compiles information gathered during the audit.

      4. Continues education through formal and in-house training.

      5. Assists the Chief Internal Auditor and Deputy Chief Internal Auditor in the preparation of audit procedures and audit manuals that will be used by the Office of Internal Audits.

      6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.

      2. Requires three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization in the fields of fiscal management, accounting, budgeting, internal auditing, insurance and/or finance.

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Prefer one or more years presenting oral and written reports to management that are clear, concise, relevant and solves problems for the organization.

      2. Prefer one or more years analyzing current business process and suggest solutions that improve the process.

      3. Prefer one or more years working with a government organization in helping management to improve efficiency of their operations.

      4. Prefer one or more years identifying changes in the business environment regarding laws and regulations and alert management to those changes.

      5. Prefer one or more years identifying improvements in the audit process by continuing to learn about efficient audit techniques with adoption of audit technology (i.e. software).

      Conditions of Employment

      1. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.

      2. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

      3. Requires the ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history self-disclosure of criminal history.

      4. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evening and weekends.

      5. Requires to obtain one of the following certification within the first 12 months of employment: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
