      Contract Type: Permanent

Wellcome is a politically and financially independent global charitable foundation, funded by a £26.8 billion investment portfolio. We support discovery research into life, health and wellbeing, and we’re taking on three worldwide health challenges: mental health, global heating and infectious diseases.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

Wellcome’s Corporate Affairs team works to build and sustain the trust, influence, reputation and brand that will help us to ensure that science works in the interests of the people we seek to benefit, and has the most positive possible impact on their health.

We are looking for an experienced Internal Communications Lead to manage the team that helps employees understand, engage with, and become advocates for Wellcome’s mission, strategy and culture. You’ll deliver inspiring and engaging communications to our staff, working across the organisation, including our free museum and library Wellcome Collection.

You will be working in Internal and Stakeholder Communications – a team responsible for delivering multi-channel communications to our closest audiences: staff, researchers, policymakers and multilateral organisations. This team works across all aspects of Wellcome’s work, devising tactics to reach our audiences where they are with content they need, with messages that add coherence and consistency.

You’ll be partnering with teams across the organisation to deliver strategic internal communications that bring to life Wellcome’s mission of supporting science to solve urgent health challenges. You’ll advise on effective internal communications approaches that help employees connect with our mission and understand the role they play in delivering it. And you’ll proactively plan and manage delivery across our channels to achieve maximum impact.

      What will I be doing?

As an internal Communication's lead you will :

      • Oversee delivery of communications plans and channel strategies that connect Wellcome’s employees with our mission and culture, making it easy for them to find key information

      • Provide strategic counsel to colleagues, particularly senior and leadership members, on internal communication priorities and channel utilisation.

      • Drive continuous improvement within the team, leveraging insights to enhance the effectiveness of internal communications.

      • Manage a team of four, setting the standard and ensuring all our internal comms are well planned, objective led and evaluated consistently.

      • Write clear, concise and compelling copy across multiple formats, that aligns with Wellcome’s tone of voice and speaks to all colleagues.

      • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments

      Is this job for me?

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about internal communications. You’ll be comfortable working with teams of specialists across multiple disciplines and be able to translate this into information and messaging that resonates with all employees. An interest in scientific research and/or global health would be desirable.

      • Working in a senior role in internal communications team within a complex internal stakeholder environment.

      • Planning and delivering multi-channel communications including intranets and newsletters.

      • An ability to establish, build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, drawing on these relationships to persuade and influence

      • Strong people management, either line management or within a matrix environment

      • Writing clear and compelling copy across multiple formats, comfortable translating complex information into narrative

      • Thinking creatively and conceptually, with the ability to translate big picture into tangible actions.
