Job Description

- Conduct research as requested by the research associate and/or fellow on a variety of topics
- Assist with writing and editing content, including research memos and briefs, blog posts, book chapters, and other publications, as needed
- Prepare background research memos for proposed book chapters
- Assist with the social media presence and marketing strategy for the department, including drafting tweets and brainstorming outreach ideas, as needed
- Track daily news reports that are relevant for the department
- Track social media activity
- Track media coverage for the fellow
- Assist in logistical support for meetings, including but not limited to preparing distribution materials and helping with guest check-in during roundtables and other departmental events, under the supervisor’s direct supervision
- Undergraduate or graduate student with a concentration in international relations, political science, history, Middle East studies, or a related field
- All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
- Prior research experience required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, OneDrive required
- Excellent editing, proofreading, source collection/managment skills required
- Proficiency in statistical software and/or Zotero a plus
- Proficiency in Arabic, Hebrew, and/or Turkish a plus
Overview
All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning, and much more.
The intern will have the opportunity to build a base of knowledge about the Middle East and North Africa region through drafting memos and background briefs. Additionally, the intern will improve upon their research, writing, editing, proofreading, organization, and time management skills.
CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.
