The Investigative Specialist position will help plan and conduct complex civil rights investigations relating to civil rights matters within the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney's Office. Such investigations pertain to the federal civil rights protections over which the Department of Justice has investigatory and enforcement authority. This position supports civil investigations only. The incumbent will not perform any Criminal Investigator (GS-1811) duties.
At the full performance level, you will provide a variety of investigative specialist services in the civil rights division. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties will include, but are not limited to:Requirements
Qualifications
GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet ONE of the following conditions as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education or a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience : One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 7 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Specialized experience is defined as assisting in the planning and conducting of investigations. Experience accessing, collecting, examining and analyzing data, evidence or other information from a variety of sources.
Education: You must have one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Combination of Education and Experience : Combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet ONE of the following conditions as defined below:
Specialized Experience : One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 9 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Specialized experience is defined as planning and conducting investigative analysis. Experience conducting research to reconstruct events, establish possible associations, detect trends and develop case-specific subject profiles. Experience preparing and disseminating interim and final investigative reports.
Education : You must have one of the following types of education in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law) a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Combination of Education and Experience : Combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
