      Lab Services is looking for our next teammate! We keep St. Jude labs stocked up and ready to go every day!
      The Lab Assistant II is responsible for assisting the lab manager by performing general laboratory procedures including but not limited to: sample processing, reagent preparation, processing glassware, shipping biological specimens, and hazardous wastes disposal.

      Questions, clarifying, and providing explanations as needed. Check documents and reports for clarity and accuracy. Seeks and provides information within and outside the team in a timely manner.

      Skills in planning, prioritizing, and organizing work well. Ability to Work Planning & Execution and deliver under tight timelines with a focus on quality and efficiency.

      Plans around multiple tasks and priorities well within own work. Is able to cope with unexpected changes in routine and delivers planned outcomes on time. Escalates issues/problems and seeks support in a timely manner.

      Lab Services Skills & Knowledge
      Skills and knowledge in lab services functions and processes to ensure timely and quality availability of lab resources.

      Leverages strong knowledge of lab support and maintenance processes to independently address support needs (e.g., cleaning/sterilization, and stocking of lab resources like glassware) with skill and speed. Is able to guide peers around specific support processes and standard operating procedures.

      Minimum Education and/or Training:

      • High School Diploma/GED required.

      Minimum Experience:

      Minimum Requirement:

      • High school diploma/GED with 2+ years experience in laboratory support.
      • Prior experience in laboratory procedures and principles, techniques of cleaning and sterilization of laboratory materials preferred.
      • Experience working with laboratory personnel, understanding technical language, and supporting lab needs preferred.
      • Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role.

      Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

      Leverages strong knowledge of lab support and maintenance processes to independently address support needs (e.g., cleaning/sterilization, and stocking of lab resources like glassware) with skill and speed.

      Is able to guide peers around specific support processes and standard operating procedures.

      Job Responsibilities:

      • Independently execute assigned lab services tasks (e.g., preparation and distribution of clean and/or sterilized labware and sterile processing of media, reagents, and experimental materials).
      • Submit and record work orders for necessary facility or equipment repairs.
      • Communicate with researchers and follow special instructions as needed to ensure accuracy of each order.
      • Monitor own delivery for compliance with overall guidelines (e.g., safety, cleanliness, appropriate usage of material/equipment).
      • Conduct periodic cleaning, equipment testing and maintenance activities.
      • Troubleshoot, report, and record any issues with equipment/processes.
      • Inform supervisor of unusual observations or occurrences in a timely manner.
      • Complete relevant documentation following departmental operating procedures (e.g., supplies, details of service to remote locations, equipment repairs, solution prep, opening of chemical containers).
      • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
      • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

      Compensation

      In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $20.00 - $34.00 per hour for the role of Lab Assistant II.
