What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Support assigned AUSAs and attorneys by determining applicable laws and identifying potential defenses or causes of action
- Develop a thorough understanding of relevant federal, state, and local laws while monitoring updates to criminal and civil rules
- Manage habeas corpus and immigration matters, including drafting responses and ensuring timely filings
- Analyze statutes, judicial precedents, and agency regulations related to assigned cases, briefing attorneys on key facts and issues
- Draft legal documents and correspondence for attorney review and signature
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Law degree or completion of at least two years at an ABA-accredited law school
- Licensed by a state bar and possession of a valid state driver’s license
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in legal support
- Proficient in legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw, and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to make decisions on short notice
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Hands-on familiarity with e-Discovery tools and procedures
- Experience in performing complex legal research and drafting legal documents
- Knowledge of federal and state court systems and legal research resources
