      COMPANY OVERVIEW:
      The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) is a non-profit organization that promotes business growth and economic development in Howard County, MD. HCEDA provides support services and resources to help companies expand and thrive in the county.

      POSITION DESCRIPTION:
      The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) is seeking a creative and talented Lead Designer to join our dynamic team in Columbia, Maryland. As the Lead Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the visual identity and communication materials of HCEDA, helping us effectively promote economic growth, development, and innovation in Howard County. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to the economic development of our community. The Lead Designer is responsible for conceiving and implementing visual design and branding across all marketing initiatives for HCEDA. This position works closely with the marketing team to create graphics, layouts, and visual assets for the website, social media, print publications, advertising, and events.

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Graphic Design:
      • Create visually compelling and on-brand graphic materials for various media, including print, digital, and social platforms.
      • Design marketing collateral, brochures, flyers, posters, banners, and other promotional materials to support HCEDA's initiatives and events.
      • Develop visually engaging infographics to communicate complex data and information effectively.
      Brand Identity:
      • Maintain and uphold HCEDA's brand guidelines to ensure consistency and coherence across all communication channels.
      • Collaborate with the marketing team to refine and evolve the organization's visual identity as needed.
      Web and Digital Design:
      • Assist in designing and updating HCEDA's website, ensuring a user-friendly and visually appealing online presence.
      • Create engaging visuals for social media, email campaigns, and online advertisements.
      Presentation Design:
      • Design captivating presentations and visuals for meetings, conferences, and events to support HCEDA's business development efforts.
      Collaborative Work:
      • Collaborate with various teams within HCEDA to understand project requirements and deliver creative solutions that meet their needs.
      • Work closely with copywriters, photographers, and other professionals to develop integrated marketing materials.
      Stay Current:
      • Stay up to date with design trends, tools, and software to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of visual communication.
      EXPERIENCE:
      • 3–5 years of experience in a full-time graphic, digital/social, and web design role—agency experience preferred.
      • Have a keen eye for design with a proven mastery of basic design principles and typographic skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills--be comfortable guiding internal clients through your work, including thought processes and rationale.
      • Have strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
      • Have an eagle eye for the smallest details.
      • Be able to time-manage and successfully work on multiple clients and projects in parallel.
      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
      • A portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design work including social, print, brand, and logo design is required.
      • Proven experience in graphic, digital/social, and web design, preferably in a professional setting.
      • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and color theory.
      • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
      • Habitually take initiative, follow up, and ask questions as needed.

      • This is a full-time, on-site position based in Columbia, Maryland.

      • The Designer will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and work closely with the HCEDA team.
