      We have an opening for a Lead Educator (Bilingual - English/Spanish) to join the Learning department at MCA Chicago. Reporting to the Manager of Student and Family Programs, the Lead Educator will design and facilitate tours, workshops, and activities based on the MCA’s exhibitions and collections that promote learning through reflection, creative participation, and exchange. They will primarily focus on experiences for youth audiences through school field trips and family programs with occasional design and facilitation of experiences for adult visitors. To be successful in this role, you must:


      • Design and facilitate inquiry and discussion-based tours of MCA exhibitions as well as hands-on workshops for students in 1st to 12th grade to align with developmentally appropriate learning standards.

      • Create curriculum and facilitation plans with accessible and replicable strategies for engaging works of art that emphasize social emotional learning and culturally responsive approaches.

      • Design and facilitate culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate creative projects for families with children 12 years old and under for family programs.

      • Assist with training and mentoring part-time Teaching Assistants in delivering and facilitating developmentally appropriate tours and projects.

      • Organize and maintain Learning Studio and workroom spaces to support student and family programming, including purchasing and upkeep of art supplies.

      • Research MCA exhibitions, collection, and best practices in museum education.

      • As assigned, design and facilitate inquiry and discussion-based tours of MCA exhibitions or other learning activities for adult audiences to support the needs of the Learning Department.

      • Design and facilitate staff learning sessions related to MCA exhibitions as assigned.

      • Provide assistance by facilitating projects designed by the MCA or other artists.

      • Work with the Learning team to provide facilitation and creative support to Learning programs as well as other projects of the Artistic Division, with specific focus on school partners and teachers.

      Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Humanities, Education, or Art Education, or equivalent experience.
      • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching youth in a creative setting.
      • Demonstrated active creative practice (in visual art, multi-media, performance, writing, etc.).
      • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art, art interpretation, and public speaking, with experience facilitating inquiry-based dialogue.
      • Demonstrated knowledge and facilitation of social and emotional learning, equity, and social justice centered activities.
      • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
      • Ability to work independently, facilitate group dynamics, exercise good judgment, and show initiative.
      • Ability to operate general office equipment.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Word.
      • Ability to see works of visual art and hear and respond verbally to the voices of other people.

      $46,450 - $58,060 a year

      This is a full-time position and individuals must be available to work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm with occasional additional hours as required by activity in the department. Must work the second Saturday of every month October-May. Must be able to perform occasional light lifting and general mobility throughout the building is required.
