Position Purpose:
The Lead Electrician is responsible for supervising and performing skilled electrical work throughout the hospital, ensuring safe, code-compliant operations of all electrical systems. This position plays a key role in maintaining uninterrupted, mission-critical electrical services essential to patient safety and clinical operations. The Lead Electrician oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs, supports capital improvement projects, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, NFPA 70E, and local codes.
Key Job Activities:
· Leads and schedules the daily activities of electricians and electrical contractors.
· Provides guidance, mentorship, and technical support to electrical team members.
· Coordinates with clinical and support departments to minimize disruption of hospital operations during electrical work.
Education and Work Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Technical certification or completion of an accredited apprenticeship program preferred.
· Journeyman or Master Electrician license required (as per state/local regulations).
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in institutional electrical systems, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
· Acute care hospital experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
· Thorough knowledge of healthcare facility electrical systems, including life safety and emergency systems.
· Ability to interpret construction documents, schematics, and code regulations.
