      Job Description:

      The chemical scientist will be part of a small and highly talented team of image scientists and geospatial intelligence experts supporting the customer mission. The scientist will contribute by entering relevant chemical names to Microsoft spreadsheets or databases, analyzing overhead imagery, and performing open source internet searches. Additionally, the scientist may contribute by inferring explanations of sometimes incomplete or contradictory observations. The scientist may also propose straightforward scientific experiments as means to resolve outstanding questions or hypotheses.

      Essential Functions:

      • Capacity to skim large volumes of text and images for relevant details and apply those details to infer most likely or most probable explanation for incomplete or sometimes contradictory observations.
      • Reads chemical patent and research literature and enters chemical names to an Excel spreadsheet or database.
      • Thinks logically about scientific problems, proposes experiments to achieve answer to hypothesis, and expresses results succinctly. Familiarity with Heilmeier catechism a bonus.
      • Reads JSON, XML, and HTML text files. Ability to generate JSON, XML, or HTML text files using IDL or Python a bonus.
      • Familiarity with geospatial methods and processes, particularly retrieving geospatial information using various databases. Experience analyzing images a bonus. Prior experience performing open source internet searches a bonus.
      • Development of documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief government and industry as required.
      • Ability to work independently and to communicate effectively through e-mail, short Microsoft Word documents, and Microsoft PowerPoints slides.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience OR Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
      • Experience with basic and applied research in energetic materials and energy conversion and chem/bio detection and defeat.
      • Top Secret SCI or TS/SCI w/CI Poly

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Familiarity with organic reaction chemistry. Familiarity with inorganic reaction chemistry.
      • Familiarity with biosynthetic chemistry.
