      THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF PLANTATION EMPLOYEES. APPLICANTS MUST BE EITHER IN A FULL OR PART TIME
      CAPACITY AS A CITY OF PLANTATION PARKS AND RECREATION EMPLOYEE.

      This is a non-exempt position, which is supervisory work responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment for patrons using the City's Aquatic Facility.

      An employee in this classification is responsible for supervising the efficient and safe operation of the City's Aquatic Facility for the convenience and enjoyment of patrons. The work involves the prompt performance of emergency lifesaving and first aid tasks as occasions require, instruct and supervise swimming classes, instruct Lifeguard Training courses, conduct training sessions for lifeguard staff, and the care and maintenance of all equipment, pool deck, swimming pools and locker room facilities. The employee works under the supervision of the Aquatics Complex Manager and/or Assistant Manager. This employee should exercise some initiative and independent judgment.

      Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Supervises and participates in swimming pool operations including supervision of lifeguards and other assigned personnel.

      Supervises and participates in daily maintenance of pool and pool related facilities, including minor repairs and adjustments.

      Conducts regular aquatic personnel training sessions in subjects related to the aquatic field.

      Assists in organizing, promoting, teaching, and supervising various swimming activities and programs including but not limited to learn-to-swim classes, swim clinics, synchronized swimming, water polo, special events (e.g. Fourth of July), general recreational and public swimming, diving, etc.

      Assists in overseeing the collection of deposits of daily revenues for the Aquatic Division. Prepares daily revenue and attendance reports as required.

      Conducts and analyzes pool water and readings.

      Assists in preparation and clean up of the aquatic facility in the event of major storms.

      This position does not have final procurement authority.

      Performs related work as required and as directed.Thorough knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, chlorinators, and other standard swimming pool equipment.

      Knowledge of and the ability to perform simple repairs on various pool equipment.

      Knowledge and ability to administer first aid.

      Knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.

      Knowledge of modern principles and practices employed in teaching swimming and other aquatic sports.

      Knowledge of ordinances and regulations applicable to the City's Aquatic Facility.

      Ability to teach training courses such as lifeguarding, CPR, AED and First Aid and supervise various swim programs and activities.

      Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of lifeguards and other aquatic personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

      Ability to work for extended periods of time in sunny, hot and humid conditions.

      Ability to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate the facility's needs.

      Ability to perform monetary transactions through use of basic computer programs, such as REC TRAC.

      Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

      Ability to perform light custodial duties.

      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other employees and the general public.

      Ability to operate a City vehicle and posses the required license.

      DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

      Graduation from high school; some experience working with various age groups in the aquatics area; possess the following current certifications: WSI, Lifeguard Training (includes First Aid training) and Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and CPR Instructor, AED and ability to pass Lifeguard test. Experience in basic plumbing and swimming pool maintenance.
