Job summary
Due to a review into the staffing establishment , an exciting opportunity has arisen for an additional Band 5 Lead Nursery Nurse on the East London Mother & Baby Unit.
The East London MBU is a 12 bedded unit based in the City & Hackney Centre for Mental Health.
We provide care and treatment for women with a pre-existing mental illness who suffer a relapse during pregnancy or after giving birth,such as bi-polar affective disorder, schizophrenia, recurrent depressive disorder, severe anxiety disorderand schizo-affective disorder
Women who develop an acute mental illness such as puerperal psychosis or depression during or afterpregnancy
Women who are at significant risk of becoming unwell in the perinatal period (prophylactic admissions) who have established diagnosis of mental illness and are already known to mental health services - referrals will be considered from 32 weeks gestation.
The aim of the unit is to ensure that all women who have young infants and who require admission can remain with their baby, enabling the special bond between mother and baby to be unbroken at a critical time in the life of a young family.
Main duties of the job
As the lead nursery nurse you will be working in an established multi-disciplinary team leading a team of nursery nurses ensuring all aspects of baby development and care remain a central part of the treatment plan for mums experiencing a mental health episode.
You will also provide a pivotal role in supporting fathers, care - givers and carers in all aspects of baby development and care.
As a lead nursery nurse you will participate and ensure that Nursery Nurse led groups take place in the Mother & Baby Unit and develop this programme with feedback from mothers.
You would also ensure that there is an induction for new nursery nurses and also provide specialist training to the wider nursing and multi-disciplinary team around baby care.
You will also be key in supporting excellent standards and quality of care to support the Royal college Of Psychiatrists accreditation.
With the move to a Provider Collaborative Model for MBU's there is potential future developments and changes that as a lead nursery nurse will play a key role in.
This role will involve you working Long days within the established shift numbers in the MBU. This will also include working 2 weekends out of each 4 week roster period.
You will also be expected to undertaking training in Physical holding skills and be part of the wider unit rapid response team.
