      About the workplace

      This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.

      As the Policy Strategist, you will lead collaboration across the organization and among key external partners to develop and deliver a policy agenda and workplans that advance Vancity’s public policy priorities. Through strategic thinking, convening and coordinating policy stakeholders, and effective advocacy, you will position Vancity to drive meaningful and lasting impact on public policy related to: climate, affordable housing, the co-operative and community sector, and equity and Reconciliation.

      A typical day would involve:

      • Developing and delivering strategies and workplans that advance the policy outcomes in Vancity's strategic plan and the annual Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement Operating Framework
      • Working with internal and external partners to produce policy options, budget briefs, and other submissions for governments, regulators, and opposition parties.
      • Monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments for opportunities to advance Vancity’s policy priorities.
      • Producing reports and analysis as-needed on policy progress, legislative developments, and regulatory changes that impact Vancity’s policy agenda.
      • Supporting senior leaders and building capacity across the organization to advance Vancity’s policy priorities.
      • Produce key messages, briefing notes, presentation materials, and other communications products as required to support the team, division, and Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
      • Manage strategic engagement with key stakeholders with the networks, resources, and influence to advance Vancity’s policy priorities.

      You have:

      • A Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Economics, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Familiarity with financial services or credit unions is strongly desired.
      • 4+ years of experience in related policy and advocacy work.
      • Strong analytical and research skills to monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting financial institutions, the credit union sector.
      • Understanding of legislative and regulatory developments in areas such as affordable housing, environment and climate change, and Indigenous economic reconciliation is highly beneficial.
      • Knowledge of community-building principles, social impact initiatives, and grassroots organizing is a strong asset.
      • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing communication materials for various internal and external stakeholders such as senior leadership, regulators, elected officials, and civil servants.

      The salary range for the role is $81,200 to $122,000 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($101,600) . The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
