      Job Description

      • American Express Global Business Travel is part of one of the world’s largest travel agency networks with locations in 139 countries worldwide.

      The lead project manager is responsible to plan, organize, lead and control customer projects efficiently and effectively. The job of a lead project manager requires you to have in-depth knowledge and extraordinary skills in all aspects of global project management including leading a project team, managing project costs, resources, change requests, risk and issues to ensure that maximum business benefit is maintained as well as provision of regular project status updates. You are required to have a proven record of success in managing complicated projects involving technology delivery. In this role you will draw upon your experience and expertise to evaluate, define and continuously improve our customer project management principles, practices, and tools as well as promote Project Management practices through formal and informal networks.

      The lead project manager will:

      • Lead individual large complex global projects:

      • Develop project plans and ensures that the scope and approach are fully understood by all stakeholders

      • Lead and motivate a project team

      • Negotiate and influence customers and cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate resourcing levels are engaged and maintained throughout the course of the projects

      • Lead customers through all aspects of the project from initiation through post implementation review

      • Ensure that the supporting business case is updated throughout the course of delivery and works with the customer and business partners to ensure business case objectives are met

      • Assemble project plans, ensures all systems of record for project reporting are kept current, and directs and monitors work effort on a regular basis

      • Review partner plans and estimates and actively seek clarification and verification as appropriate.

      • Ensure accurate reflection of project budgets, forecasts and actuals

      • Identify and track key project milestones (base-lining critical path)

      • Monitor and communicate the progress of project delivery and ensures timely and effective communication of project status in terms of cost, forecast, schedule and assessment of risks/issues

      • Pro-actively anticipates project risks and issues and ensures adequate mitigation is put in place to ensure delivery is not compromised

      • Ensure effective change control procedures and processes are efficiently used to maintain control on scope, schedule and cost

      • Oversee quality assurance and ensure appropriate levels of end-to-end testing resources across the project are deployed

      • Facilitate post implementation reviews and ensure lessons learned are carried forward appropriately

      Contribute to the overall project management structure, processes, people and tools:

      • Coaching less-senior personnel – promote best practices in Project Management

      • Identify PM-related training needs

      • Conduct training - both hard and soft—that are required for the successful planning, execution, delivery and support of projects. Qualify project management training vendors and monitor their delivery and effectiveness

      • Perform project reviews - assess the health of a projects to net the review findings so that the most important problem areas are identified for improvement

      • Make continuous improvement a priority

      • Think like a business person - understand the business need for each project and make on-going decisions based on what’s best for the organization—even if that means challenging lead stakeholders on critical success factors

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Computer Science, or other related field (or has equivalent work experience)

      • Previous IT and business work experience including managing team(s) in requirements gathering and technology delivery – approx. 8 years experience desired

      • Requires financial acumen in terms of representing project financials

      • Certification requirement: PMI or equivalent Project Management certification (e.g. Certified Associate in Project Management, Certified Project Management Practitioner, International Project Management Association)

      • Experience in the travel industry a plus
