      Job summary

      Lead Psychosexual Therapist

      56 Dean Street is Europe's largest Sexual Health and HIV service based in Soho, London seeing over 100,000 patients per year. We specialise in services aimed at the LGBT+ communities and have a well established Psychosexual Services taking referrals from across London. Due to internal promotion we are seeing an experienced, motivated and compassionate Lead for our Psychosexual Services. You will be working within a large MDT of Medical and nursing staff as well as our teams in Trans Plus and Gender affirming care.

      The post holder will be expected to manage the psychosexual service across 56 Dean Street (sexual health). This post reports directly to the Senior Clinical Psychologist responsible for all Psychology and Psychosexual provision across the Trans Plus and 56 Dean Street Services.

      Main duties of the job

      Providing assessment and psychosexual therapy to clients referred into to the service. Working with individuals and couples presenting with sexual difficulties. Working with clients presenting with sexual health and HIV related issues, high risk sexual behaviours and compulsive sexual behaviours in an individual format or a group setting.Managing client's referrals and liaising with the referrers confidentially and appropriately.Managing the clinical placements for trainee psychosexual therapists.Line management and supervision for a team of trainee psychosexual therapists and trainee clinical/counselling psychologistsTo contribute to the ongoing development of Chemsex support pathways within 56 Dean Street, alongside supervision of health advisors and drug support workers working within this part of the service. Clinically supervising psychosexual staff across the HIV and Sexual Health Directorate (John Hunter at St. Stephens Centre, West London Centre for Sexual Health at C CH and 56 Dean Street in Soho. Focusing on the development of psychosexual service as a whole and individual clinics across the 3 sites. Ensuring needs of patients are met and standards of care are prioritised. Working with the Psychology Lead and other senior psychologists within the TransPlus service to ensure standard practice around service delivery, outcomes and management of patient pathways.

      Job responsibilities

      CLINICAL PRACTICE

      1. Manage clients referred to the psychosexual service by GPs, NHS Specialists, Doctors, Nurses and Health Advisors within the three clinics across the HIV/GUM Directorate. Self-referred clients are not accepted to this service.
      2. Manage relationships with external referrer networks including GPs, mental health services and physical health departments within the Trust.
      3. Provide time limited therapy with an initial contract of six sessions.
      4. Manage caseloads and provide clinical supervision fortnightly to trainee Psychosexual Therapists and trainee Clinical/ Counselling Psychologists on clinical placements at 56 Dean Street Clinic.
      5. Continuously monitor and audit the clinical caseload for the service overall.
      6. Demonstrate the ability to work with an integrative approach and the following theoretical models: cognitive behaviour, systemic, person centred and psychodynamic.
      7. Assess, diagnose the presenting problems of individuals, couples and suggest a comprehensive formulation to clients at the end of the assessment.
      8. Liaise with senior clinicians at 56 Dean Street Clinic for medical advice, assessment and management of clients with organic sexual dysfunction.
      9. Be a key member and promote the Cross Directorate Sexual Dysfunction Network
      10. Evaluate progress throughout the psychosexual therapy sessions and any outcomes at the end of treatment (including patient feedback).
      11. To refer clients with their consent to medical specialists and appropriate services when necessary.
      12. Attend clinical supervision provided by the clinic.
      13. Attend and participate in Directorate educational meetings and represent the psychosexual service.
      14. Represent the clinic in conference or educational meetings nationally or internationally.
      15. Work with community leaders and be involved in outreach projects
      16. Offer regular talks and training on psychosexual issues in clinic and outside when appropriate
      17. Liaise with work colleagues and peers for supervision and best standards of care
      18. Manage own CPD by focusing on further developing professionally and personally
      19. Manage more complex cases and liaise in a multidisciplinary manner with other specialities
      20. Develop, maintain and promote a clear working model for effective goal focused psychosexual therapy

      MANAGEMENT

      1. Manage the clinical placements of trainee Psychosexual Therapists and Counsellors by processing their applications, setting up formal interviews in partnership with the Clinic Manager and arrange honorary contract with Human Resources.Maintain relationships with all major Psychosexual training providers, as well as the main London Doctoral courses in Clinical and Counselling Psychology.
      2. To investigate and report immediately complaints, accidents, incidents and losses in accordance with Trust Policy.
      3. To be aware of current procedures in cases of cardiac arrest, fire, flood and major incident and attend mandatory training in accordance with Trust Policy.
      4. Develop and annually review confidentiality statement and cancelation policy
      5. Manage a team of trainee psychosexual therapists
      6. Write reports to course leaders that supply students for placements about their competency and progress and play a crucial role in their qualification
      7. Monitor the training needs of the psychosexual team and invite trainers accordingly
      8. To raise and maintain the profile of the psychosexual clinic in management meetings
      9. Deliver cost effective and transparent clinical practice, and to work with Psychology Lead to develop efficiencies within the service over time.

      • Psychosexual qualification to masters level or above and/or relevant psychosexual therapy experience accredited by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapy (CORST)
      • Appropriate professional membership (COSRT/UKPC /HCPC/ BABCP)

      • Additional short courses in sexual behaviours/dysfunction
      • Experience in Time limited counselling or therapy
