      Job Summary

      The Lead Pharmacist ensures the customers' needs are met through extensive clinical knowledge and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Retail Pharmacy Department. This position will ensure proper dispensing, review, and verification of prescribed medications, in accordance with regulatory requirements and the organizations policies and procedures. Oversees daily operations and customer service while performing all duties of a pharmacist. This position reports to the Regional Manager, Retail Pharmacy.

      Memorial Hermann is excited to announce the opening a new retail pharmacy located at our Woodlands Medical Center in May of 2024!.

      We seek a Lead Pharmacist/PIC with strong retail and leadership experience to join our team.

      Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy

      Licenses/Certifications:

      • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy

      • Immunization Certification through an accredited organization (e.g., APhA)

      Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

      • Two (2) years retail pharmacy experience required

      • Previous PIC experience preferred

      • Demonstrated experience with prescription insurance billing

      • Excellent communication skills

      • Ability to cope with varied levels of workload and multiple tasks

      • Must be able to work in a fast paced and changing environment

      • Accurate data entry skills

      • Strong time management and organizational skills

      • Requires ability to contribute as a member of the healthcare team

      • Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices and familiarity with health care reimbursement environment

      PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

      • Maintains medication profiles and reviews for drug-related problems.

      • Reviews prescriptions issued by the physician, or other authorized prescriber, to assure accuracy, appropriateness of medication, and determine formulas and ingredients needed.

      • Fills/labels prescriptions, including controlled substances, providing drug information to patients according to the needs/age of the patient/patient population being served.

      • Provides accurate, adequate, drug information/education to patients, families, and providers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.

      • Supervises and directs department employees engaged in the medication dispensing process.

      • Conducts inventory and maintains appropriate inventory records.

      • Designated “Pharmacist In Charge” for the Retail Pharmacy Department, and adheres to state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy, maintaining records as required.

      • Oversees the security of the prescription area and its contents are maintained at all times and the reporting of any thefts and/or diversions of controlled substances.

      • Operates a cash register in collecting: cash, check, charge transactions and bagging of merchandise.

      • Collaborates with hospital staff to coordinate discharge process workflow for obtaining discharge prescriptions, and provides patient medication education/counseling while optimizing patient satisfaction.

      • Complies with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA/HITECH.

      • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

      • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals, which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
