Job Summary

The Lead Security Specialist will be responsible for providing executive protection to individuals within Duke Energy. Executive protection (EP), also known as close protection, refers to security and risk mitigation measures taken to ensure the safety of VIPs or other individuals who may be exposed to elevated personal risk because of their employment, high-profile status, etc.

The Executive Protection Agent is responsible for providing effective protection of VIPs and other individuals within Duke Energy. The Executive Protection Agent will provide personal security and conduct advance work to include risk assessments of airports, routes, hotels, event venues, medical support options and associated threat vectors. Additional duties may include conducting property integrity checks, working special major events, and performing surveillance and counter-surveillance. Within their duties is the responsibility to adhere to Duke Energy’s business and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Reports to Duke Energy specified leadership
• Responsible for providing efficient and high-quality support directly to the protectee(s)
• Conducts advance special event assessments in preparation for executive’s arrival
• Safeguards and maintains highly sensitive and confidential information
• Conducts ongoing threat, risk and vulnerability assessments via social media monitoring along with formal and informal intelligence sources
• Observes, reports, and/or intervenes as appropriate regarding any situation that may compromise the safety and security of the protectee(s), assets, and/or reputations
• Operates motor vehicles in a safe and legal manner
• Will maintain a high level of physical fitness and personal appearance
• Frequent (50%+) domestic / international travel
• Maintains flexible schedule and on-call hours as needed

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and seven (7) year's related work experience
• High School /GED and ten (10) years of related experience in lieu of a degree
• 10+ years of sworn law enforcement experience – must have left in good standing
• 3+ years of executive protection experience

• Ability to work nights and weekends as required
• Proven proficiency in verbal de-escalation of conflicts
• Excellent understanding of local use-of-force laws
• Proven writing and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Familiar with private air operations and traveling on short notice
• Ability to multi-task with a calm sense of urgency
• Excellent Presentation Skills
• Superior Fire Arm Skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Leadership/Supervision role at least for five years in the Security or related field
• Proficient in principles of project management

Working Conditions

• Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
• This position will be based in Charlotte, NC
• Significant travel will be involved: 50% +

Specific Requirements

• Able to obtain/sustain Government Sponsored / Regulatory required security clearance and access rights to secured space
• NC CCW (North Carolina Concealed Carry of Weapons),
• Valid NC driver’s license
• Valid US or foreign passport
• Must be physically fit and pass a FAA Class 2 Medical Physical annually
• CPR/first aid/AED certified
