  Vertica Analytics Platform team delivers the power and efficiency without the administrative effort of operating a database at a massive scale. Thanks to your contributions our customers will be able to focus on their business logic, running analytical queries and performing in-database machine learning at a massive scale, without needing expertise in operations or database administration. This role will allow you to play a pivotal role as an early member of a team building OpenText’s Vertica-as-a-Service (VaaS). You will design and implement improvements to a control plane that monitors and operates customer databases. You will write code to analyze database activity and raise notifications of meaningful events, and you will automate the handling of such events. There is a lot of gratifying work to be done. It is an exciting time to join the team.

  What you will be doing

  • Build software to monitor and operate a Vertica database with high reliability, outstanding performance, and high efficiency.
  • Design, build, and automate features such as non-disruptive upgrade and disaster recovery.
  • Implement automated responses to stability and performance issues.

  What you need to have

  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • Comfortable with Linux command line and scripting in Python
  • Excellent programming skills with a language like Go, Rust, Java, etc
  • Excellent communication, ability to describe a problem in a technical manner

  What we are looking for

  • Experience in administration: AWS (Amazon Web Services) Lambda, Fargate, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience with GitLab, Jenkins, CI/CD, Bitbucket Pipeline, infrastructure as code
  • Success completing coding projects with Python, Node.js, GoLang
  • Experience with administering a database
  • Experience in automation development and configuration management

  Success Measures

  • Within 3 months, you will have completed the Vertica Essentials course and have a good understanding of Vertica. You will also have fixed bugs and developed minor features.
  • Within 6 months, you will be able to work independently designing and developing medium and large features.
  • In 12 months, you will mentor new members of the team and contribute to the internal knowledge base. Additionally, you will have meaningfully contributed to the vision and VaaS product roadmap.
