- This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
- Software Development: Proficient in developing, modifying, and maintaining software and firmware for space systems.
- Hardware/Software Integration: Experience in integrating software with hardware components, particularly for space technologies and flight experiments.
- Testing & Validation: Expertise in software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware/software-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, ensuring system functionality meets mission objectives.
- Proficient in programming languages commonly used in Hardware/Software-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and simulation environments, including C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, VHDL/Verilog, Ada, Java, and Rust.
- Cloud Architecture: Strong skills in designing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure for testing and simulation environments.
- System Analysis & Modeling: Proficiency in conducting engineering analysis and performing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) for space systems integration.
- Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or other cloud-based platforms for mission operations and testing.
- Proficiency in software version control tools (e.g., Git, SVN).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity tools and principles, ensuring the integrity of system designs and test environments.
- Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and requirements definition for space systems.
- Familiarity with cross-domain data solutions for secure data transfer across different classification levels (e.g., SIPR, JWICS).
- Additional experience in cybersecurity and information assurance practices in compliance with DoD standards.
- Sec+ certification or in process for equivalent certification
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software development and hardware/software integration for defense systems.
- Hands-on experience with space system integration, including working with flight hardware and space technologies (e.g., satellite systems, high-altitude balloon systems, etc.).
- Experience with cloud computing architectures for data management, system testing, and simulation.
- Prior involvement in testing and validating space systems through SIL or HIL testing, ensuring functionality and reliability of complex systems.
- Understanding of system-level analysis across various domains, including thermal, mechanical, structural, and electrical integration for space systems.

Peraton is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) SSHINE contract to integrate, test, and support launch operations of experimental payloads. AFRL will provide the satellite bus and payload with all available documentation to date. you will play a key role in the development, integration, and testing of cutting-edge software for space systems.
