Be responsible for architecting, developing and continuously improving software for Wellcome
Lead relevant architect solutions across product teams, allowing Wellcome to take the most efficient approach to software development
Work collaboratively with other disciplines in a multi-disciplinary team
Take a lead on overall quality of software development. You will proactively seek opportunities for improvement across product teams

Has great understanding and experience of at least one server-side language (Java, Python, Scala)
Has solid understanding of client-side technology (CSS/HTML/JS)
Strong experience with AWS (and ideally terraform)
Is experienced in architecting and developing software solutions
Has strong experience developing and maintaining continuous integration systems
Is experienced architecting and developing infrastructure on cloud platforms
Has great verbal and visual communication skills
Salary: £80,455

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will act as technical lead for the Wellcome Collection within the Digital & Technology department reporting to Head of Data & Digital.
Wellcome has a large digital team with 80+ software and machine learning engineers, designers, user researchers, product managers, content creators and digital analysts. You will be part of a long established software engineering function operating alongside two other Lead software Engineers. There are lots of opportunities to share ideas and build best practice.
What will I be doing?
You will lead a team of software engineers working to develop Wellcomecollection.org as well as all the key services that support our Museum, Library and digital archive. As well as leading the team and architecting solutions, you will be expected actively write software as part of one of the Wellcome Collections product teams.
The Wellcome Collection product teams are focussed on increasing engagement with all things Wellcome Collection and building solutions that ensure a highly accessible experience for all that engage digitally.
