      Basic Job Functions:

      The responsibilities of the Lead Straightener include but is not limited to: leading the crew, primarily the finishing end, in Safety, Quality, & Productivity. Collaborate with the shift supervisor to develop team members in personal and professional growth, identify process inefficiencies and opportunities with equipment performance, improve finishing end reliability and drive lower cost. The goal is to convert billets into high quality finished products in an extremely safe and efficient manner. The Lead Straightener will be expected to make decisions that are in the best interest of Nucor.

      Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Three years of rolling mill experience.
      • Previous leadership experience in the steel industry.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      1. Two-to-four year technical degree or equivalent experience.
      2. Understanding of the rolling process and all associated processes.
      3. Understanding of Shears, Straighteners, Stackers and Finishing Areas.
      4. Strong leadership qualities, proven ability to influence and align team goals.


      Must have supervisor and/or manager recommendation and must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
