      Programme Essentials

      To join one of our 12-month Internships you will be:.

      • Currently be studying at University and applying for a Placement year in your 2nd or final year or graduating in Summer 2024
      • Looking for work experience after completing A-Levels or equivalent course or an Apprenticeship
      • Eligible to work in the UK without restriction for the duration of the internship from Monday 1st July 2024- Friday 18th July 2025

      What will I be doing?

      We are recruiting a number of Legal Interns across our Film and TV businesses based at our Central London office.

      Legal Intern (Business Affairs, Content Group)

      The legal Interns work within Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, dealing with the acquisition, distribution and production of Film and TV content. You will work with lawyers from the start of the deal where a title has been board approved, the signing of the deal, through to the completion of legal delivery. The role involves working closely with the Marketing, Operations,

      Content Strategy, Licensee and Finance teams, providing the opportunity to gain a strong insight into the wider business. You will manage and update spreadsheets with deal details and rights information. You will also communicate with members of the international business throughout Europe, Australasia, Asia and the US, confirming the rights positions of titles. The Intern enters rights information into the database which requires the interpretation of signed agreements. The role also involves sourcing and drafting documentation essential for the content release and sharing it with the business.

      Legal Intern (Business and Legal Affairs, BALA)

      Working within the central business & legal affairs (BALA) team which supports scripted TV production for Universal International Studios and Heyday Television, you’ll work closely with a team of 8 BALA execs and have a varied role assisting the team in a range of tasks related to the development, production and financing of scripted television. This includes, without limitation:

      • Producing deal summaries & helping to track deal negotiations (e.g., through creating grids and trackers)
      • Assisting with a range of drafting requests (e.g., amendments, side letters, turnaround agreements, first drafts of template deal memos)
      • Attending meetings and taking notes where relevant
      • Assisting with a variety of ad-hoc requests e.g., research on companies/writers; chain of title research
      • Assisting where needed with key contracts and systems management matters (e.g., tracking option dates)
      • Helping to liaise with internal teams e.g., Finance, Production etc. on various matters (e.g., ensuring payments have been processed)

      Legal Intern (Corporate Affairs, Networks)

      This legal Intern will work within the NBCUniversal International Networks division, the international entertainment channels group of NBCUniversal. You will work with lawyers on a broad range of matters including: assisting with drafting and reviewing various legal documents, including channel distribution related agreements for NBCUniversal’s entertainment channels and for Sky News International, undertaking legal research, managing the signing processes of agreements and assisting with ad hoc matters. You will also work closely with our Compliance team on matters such as assisting with the management of NBCU’s gifts and business entertainment system and Corporate Legal Affairs team on international matters relating to sourcing and corporate-level agreements.

      Assisting the Compliance team will include developing an understanding of the applicable bribery and corruption laws as well as our company policies around the giving/receiving gifts and business entertainment to government/non-government officials. The intern will also assist with the on-boarding of new representatives and the annual compliance refresh. This may include liaising with representatives to schedule training sessions, keeping meeting minutes, circulating our code of conduct and uploading evidence of compliance to our compliance monitoring system.       Assisting the Corporate Legal Affairs team will include providing broad commercial legal support to our corporate functions. This may include developing new template documents and training the business on the surrounding law and processes as well as assisting with the drafting and negotiating of transactional contracts.

      Legal Intellectual Property Intern (Corporate)

      As an Intellectual Property Brands & Content Intern, you will support the protection and enforcement of NBCUniversal’s prized portfolio of popular film and television brands and content, ranging from franchises like Jurassic Park/World and Despicable Me/Minions to The Office and The Umbrella Academy. You will support managing and operating our global anti-counterfeiting and enforcement programs, researching IP rights and investigating infringements, drafting cease and desist letters and witness statements, and providing training to law enforcement authorities, as well as having exposure to a broad range of IP issues.
