The base rate of pay for this position is $17.04 per hour. The Missoula Public Library is seeking a LIBRARY ASSISTANT III to join their team. This position will perform a variety of complex administrative duties to support materials management, customer service, resource access, computer services, and special projects in library departments at the Missoula Public Library (MPL).

      Performs all the duties of a Library Assistant I and II. Circulation Focus: Manages, negotiates and resolves complex issues or problems related to patrons’ customer service concerns and to patron accounts, including claims returns, collection accounts, payment plans, fee assessments, and material replacement. Troubleshoots issues with library equipment, including self check-out machines, the Media Bank, and other various devices. Prints daily, weekly and monthly Circulation reports. Responsible for management and distribution of reports. Provides guidance, counselling and mentoring to other Circulation staff on departmental policies and procedures. Gives input on the development of standard operating procedures for circulation staff to accomplish departmental work. Assists with staff training and oversight of staff use of the library management computer system, other library automation equipment and office software. Supports other staff in resolution of other circulation services issues or problems as they arise. Special Focus: If assigned to a specific department (Youth Services, Cataloging, Public Relations, IT, or Reference): assist with special assignments, as required or directed by supervisor. Staffs, leads or participates in library programs and projects. Trains or counsels other staff on use of resources, tools, equipment or technologies essential to special focus work. Serves on committees, as assigned. OTHER DUTIES: Staffs public desks as needed. Assists with collection development, under the direction of a Librarian. Compiles statistics for monthly Board reports and annual reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

      • Requires high school diploma or GED.

      • Requires two years of experience in a library setting which includes face to face public contact.

      Normal work week is Sunday through Saturday; some evening hours will be required. Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time. Requires bending, lifting, reaching, pushing/pulling wheeled carts (up to 30 to 40 pounds exerted force) and moving boxes of materials (up to 50 pounds in weight).
