      What We Want

      The Library Specialist II will be responsible for shelving, straightening, shifting and shelf-reading the special collection groups (New Books, Weinbaum, Current Periodicals that are located in both the Evans and Annex Libraries to achieve their maximum availability for library users.) The selected candidate will shelve materials in the main Library’s collection, especially during peak load periods. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the supervision of student employees.

      What You Need to Know

      • Salary: $17.25 per hour

      • Schedule: Must be able to work Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm with a one-hour lunch. Must be able to adjust schedule on an occasional basis to help cover during extended hours or in the event of an emergency.

      Required Education and Experience:

      • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

      • Three years of related library experience

      Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • General knowledge of library services and functions

      • Knowledge of email, word processing, spreadsheet applications and library online research database searches and/or processing

      • Good interpersonal skills

      • Reliable attendance

      • Excellent communication and customer service skills

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • One year as TAMU experience as a Library Specialist I

      • Previous shelving or stacking experience

      • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Google Docs

      • Knowledge of Library of Congress and SuDocs Call Numbers

      Responsibilities:

      • Special Collection Maintenance: Shelves, straightens, shifts and shelf-reads the special collection groups in the Evans and Annex Libraries in a variety of formats. Ensures that all materials are available in a timely manner. Sorts library material in sorting areas and distributes them to the appropriate locations. Uses the library computer system to discharge materials after they have been used and returns them to designated areas/units. Leads special projects in the library.

      • Shelving Unit Support: Shelves materials in the main Library’s collection (anything not in the Special Collections) especially during peak load periods. Shelf-reads and cleans up targeted areas needing attention. Participates in shifting activities as needed, including relocating/installing shelving hardware. Provides excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via e-mail. Provides instruction to and assists users while out in the Libraries in the proper use of library equipment, materials, and performs basic troubleshooting.

      • Administrative Support: Compiles unit statistics (for example: special projects, space data, student employee attendance, etc.). Serves as a point of contact for office supplies. Assists the Library Manager in day-to-day supervision of student employees. Assists in evaluating student employee’s performance. Assists with creating training materials for student employees. Participates in and hosts training sections. Monitors and may direct workflow in assigned areas. Identifies operational problems and contributes to resolution.
