      ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
      As a Literacy Coach, you will support the work and growth of the Kindergarten through 3rd grade staff in a school within the Ottawa Area of West Michigan around the Essential Practices in Literacy (literacyessentials.org). You will spend your time modeling, observing, co-teaching, planning, and propelling the practice of the school’s work forward. Your work will not be supervisory in nature, but will be supportive, collaborative, and empowering. Specifically, within this role you will work with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills around the Literacy Essentials. This work could include, but is not limited to: in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, etc. As a Literacy Coach, you will work to develop and maintain trusting relationships with staff in order to see their literacy practices flourish.

      OUR SUPPORT FOR YOU: As a Literacy Coach, you will be a part of a Literacy Team that works collaboratively to continuously grow their knowledge and practice around how to effectively support school staff in deepening their practice around the Literacy Essentials.
      This includes:

      WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: We are looking for someone who at their core is a learner, partner, coach, and guide. They work from a place of empathy and understanding and continuously strive to provide the best services and experiences possible for our local districts and schools.
      In particular, the ideal candidate would have:
      - A valid Michigan teaching certificate with a minimum of five years successful teaching experience in English language Arts (ELA), preferably at the lower elementary level. (Master’s degree in reading or a related field is preferred.)
      - Deep content and pedagogical knowledge and advanced coursework in ELA.
      - Previous successful experience coaching adult learners and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team.
      - Ability to work with teams to develop goals for improving student achievement.
      - Knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data.
      - Demonstrated success in communicating effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and support staff.
      - Ability to manage time and schedules flexibly and in a way that maximizes teacher and student learning.
      - Ability to think flexibly and to adapt work to the needs of teachers and staff.

      Position Type: Grant Funded Schedule:
      Schedule and Calendar: Full Time / School Year

      Compensation: $68,000 - $72,000
      Benefits: Benefits available, including medical, dental, and vision coverage with option to take cash in lieu of coverage.
