The Electrical Design Engineer, under the general direction of the Senior Electrical & Video Systems Engineer, provides expert advice to planning and engineering professionals in the Ministry, as well as to other governmental jurisdictions, engineering consulting firms, police, universities and interested members of the public. The position will be responsible for identifying and supervising the development and implementation of electrical engineering standards that govern the design, installation and operation of electrical systems. The position provides expert advice and services to the Province, Regions, Districts, and other Public Agencies regarding all electrical infrastructure. This position must stay informed and current of the most recent developments in this professional field to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. The position requires the individual to be technically proficient, self-learning, and have excellent communication skills. In order to be current in this professional field, the Electrical Design Engineer is in regular contact with universities, professional groups and other jurisdictions to gain access to research or practice in pilot projects using new technologies in electrical engineering.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Registration or immediately eligible* for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as currently registered as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian jurisdiction, and able to obtain registration in BC within 6 months of employment. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the EGBC.
• A minimum of four years’ progressively responsible experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience working with the following:
o Traffic signals
o Roadway and tunnel lighting
o Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
o Reversible Lane Control Systems (RLCS)
o CCTV systems
• Preference may be given to candidates with at least five years’ experience working in a position dealing directly with highway construction, maintenance and rehabilitation.Provisos:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
