- Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of BC (EGBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to EGBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in geological, mining, or geotechnical engineering. Preference may be given for advanced degree(s).
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-graduation experience in geotechnical engineering or mining engineering. Preference may be given to those with mining experience and those with underground design experience.
- compliance and enforcement regulatory experience; and/or,
- experience with issues management, problem solving, and providing expert advice to industry clients, senior management, internal staff and other agencies.
- Must have a valid BC Class 5 Diver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must be available to travel by air, fixed wing, helicopter and overnight on short notice. Must be able to climb ladders, walk up and down steep ramps.
- Work in underground conditions using appropriate protective equipment and in environments where exposure to chemical vapours, noise, dust, heat and cold are present.
An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated Professional EngineerThe Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is responsible for British Columbia’s electricity, alternative energy, mining and petroleum resource sectors, and supporting work to meet BC’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. The Ministry’s Mines Health, Safety and Enforcement Division (MHSE) provides oversight of the mineral exploration and mining sector during all stages of mine projects. The Division includes: the Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines; the Mine Audits and Strategic Services Branch; the Abandoned Mines Branch; and, the Regulatory Management Branch. The Code Review Secretariat in MHSE supports the ongoing work of the Code Review Committee.
The Geotechnical Inspector is a technical specialist, responsible for ensuring compliance to standards and legislation related to geotechnical aspects of mine site components including tailings impoundments, waste rock dumps, open pit slopes, underground workings, water management facilities and dams, geohazards and building foundations. The Geotechnical Inspector is responsible for conducting inspections, assisting in investigations and enforcement actions, and providing technical support to the mining industry, public and other government agencies.

This is a full-time permanent position.
This position can be based out of a Natural Resource Sector office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
