      Overview:

      The Logistical Services Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a full-time Mail Clerk to support the Mail Services group. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for efficiently receiving and sorting incoming mail to deliver throughout ORNL, as well as perform a wide variety of other mail and site services activities.

      Major Duties/Responsibilities:

      • Sort, distribute, pick-up/deliver mail (United States Postal Services {USPS} and inter-office) to approx. 200 mailstops daily, per route.

      • Operate various mail room machines, including postage meter, folder/inserter, labeling

      • Receive outgoing USPS mail and apply correct postage

      • Enter key tracking and delivery/confirmation items daily for tracking purposes

      • Serve as custodian for mail services vehicles

      • Assist walk-in customers and vendors; provide solutions to questions/concerns

      • Provide support to customers with mailstop assignments/changes/moves/etc.

      • Assist /provide support to mail room staff as requested/needed to ensure continuity of mail and site services

      Qualifications Required:

      • HS diploma

      • Valid driver’s license

      • Minimum of five years of experience with mail room operations or a combination of relevant experience and education

      • Ability to walk approx. 5 miles per day - indoors, stairs and outdoors and in all safe weather conditions

      • Ability to safely lift/carry/push/pull items up to 20 pounds

      • Ability to safely drive government vehicle(s) throughout ORNL

      Qualifications Preferred:

      • Demonstrated proficiency of MS Office software, ORNL Systems including SuccessFactors, ORNL Buy/Ariba, PAS

      • Knowledge of US DOE mail regulations and procedures

      • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

      • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

      • Familiarity with building accesses/hazards/postings

      Special Requirements:

      • Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

      • Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
