      Hybrid Working

      Structured hybrid role:
      At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.


      Introduction:

      Lead and manage a team of application developers working on mainframe technology within UK Debit Cards team, focusing on delighting and exceeding stakeholders with quality and timeliness of software deliverables. In parallel continuously improve application engineering and development capability and contributing to the wider leadership team goals.


      What will you be doing?

      Following are key activities expected from the role for Debit Card application.
      1. Change Delivery
      a) Accountability for the delivery of all system change (to agreed time, quality, cost and functionality) for one or more complex/large products / applications in the respective product domain or channel. This will include software delivered across the end-to-end software development lifecycle.
      b) To be recognised as the “go to” contact for domain queries, product / application queries and major incident escalation / management.
      2. Product Road Mapping
      a) Accountable for the delivery of product roadmaps for future direction of the product.
      b) Accountable for promoting proactive remedial strategies to prevent future system problems and to improve the quality of delivered systems.
      3. Product Engineering/ Ownership
      a) Be recognised as the key point of contact for a product or suite of products, drawing on all relevant Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
      b) To ensure that the quality and stability of the products / applications are maintained across their lifetime. Reviewing and approving changes proposed and in-line with the relevant architectures
      c) to use system specific knowledge and expertise to define strategies that provides business solutions
      4. People Management
      a) To effectively manage a large team including personnel development and career planning, ensuring skilled resources levels are maintained, coaching / mentoring and driving/leading change to organisational transformation / process improvement.
      5. Product Consultancy
      a) Provide consultancy and drive/lead change for new initiatives, to assist in the definition of business solutions or technical strategies.
      b) Support the production of Technical Feasibility Studies (TFS), High Level Designs (HLD) and End to End Designs for projects.
      6. Risk Management
      a) Compliance to regulatory and mandatory policies
      b) Audit findings are fully addressed
      c) Act as the focal point for the identification, management and resolution of technical Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies (RAIDs) for the product
      7. Mainframe transformation
      a) Provide thought leadership for mainframe initiatives & Engage with appropriate teams to lead the deliverables
      b) Eliminate redundant processes and unused business functions. For all findings, understand cost to achieve against savings benefit
      c) Continuous learning to assess new opportunities to reduce cost associated with the mainframe


      What we’re looking for:

      o Experience of leading and managing development teams producing high quality software deliverables for business critical, high availability and secure applications is essential.
      o Sound knowledge of HOGAN, Umbrella architecture is must.
      o Very good knowledge of the major tools in a toolkit for the specific application product –IBM Zseries mainframe, Hogan architecture, CAMS – Umbrella, COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, VSAM and ZOS API.
      o Ability to encourage and inspire team to help realise their potential, providing knowledge and guidance to all team members as required.
      o Strong leadership and organisation skills with proven ability to manage other people’s workload and ensure all deliverables as a group are met.
      o Experience within the financial services industry and delivering large scale enterprise systems.
      o Able to maintain high quality Standards & Controls
      o Effective team player
      o Flexible approach and ability to work under pressure
      o Consistent internal customer focus in a demanding environment
      o Sound time management and organisational skills
      o Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills


      o Graduate with Technical background.
      o Mainframe Application Design & Development Experience
      o Hands – on experience on CAMS II applications at least for 5 years.
      o Functional Expertise in Debit/Credit arena

      Skills that will help you in the role:

      o Prior experience in Design & Development with Mainframe applications preferably in large banks
      o Sound SDLC/AGILE knowledge and understanding of the Design, Development, Testing and support responsibilities
