      Job summary

      We have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Maintenance & Facilities Assistant. The role is part of a small team carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance work as well as regularly scheduled safety checks and monitoring across the Hospice. Experience of working in commercial maintenance or a facilities based environment is essential for this role.

      This post requires unsupervised working with vulnerable adults, an enhanced DBS clearance is therefore a requirement.

      Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

      Main duties of the job

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Carry out unsupervised, routine maintenance and minor repair work that does not require the attention of a fully qualified craftsman at the main Hospice & retail locations.
      • Undertake daily/weekly/monthly routine inspections, maintenance including painting and decorating, repair, installations and fault finding on a wide range of plant, buildings and equipment.
      • To comply with all Health & Safety regulations and report any defects to the Maintenance Supervisor.
      • Undertake water temperature testing as instructed.
      • Carry out routine maintenance work consisting of lamp changing, filter changing, daily vehicle inspections/checks to include oil, water, tyre pressures to ensure vehicles are safe and fit to use.
      • Use manufacturers manuals/literature, workshop manuals to establish best methods of maintenance and for resolving faults and breakdowns with the support of Tradespersons and Maintenance Supervisor.
      • To keep work area, clean, tidy & safe.
      • To be aware of C.O.S.H.H. regulation and C.O.S.H.H. Data/Information sheets.
      • To be flexible in approach to working hours based on the needs of the Hospice.
      • Participate in an on call rota (rota basis 1 week in 4).
      • Willing to travel to other premises as required.
      • To assist with the moving of furniture and equipment around the Hospice.
      • Have reasonable fitness with which to carry out the main duties of the role. This includes bending, stooping and lifting for short periods of time.
      • Be aware of and familiar with Hospice H&S policy.

      This is a physically demanding role so the successful applicant should have reasonable fitness with which to carry out the main duties of the role. This includes bending, stooping and lifting for short periods of time.

      Be prepared to assist with any routine or unexpected inspections.

      Ensure Uniform policy is adhered to at all times.

      Be aware of and familiar with Hospice H&S policy.

      Willingness to undertake training and development to fulfill the role.

      Participate in the Hospice appraisal system.

      • NVQ level 2 or equivalent in building maintenance or trade specific
      • Knowledge of Moving and Handling techniques, Fire Safety and COSHH assessments
      • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements

      Desirable

      • Any City & Guilds Building services certificates.
      • Health & Safety training
      • Water Hygiene awareness training

      Experience

      Essential

      • Significant working experience in a commercial maintenance and/or facilities based environment
      • Knowledge of general building fabric maintenance / electrical / mechanical and plumbing systems and equipment.
      • Awareness in legionella & standing water
      • Knowledge of safe working practices including safe operation of ladders and steps
      • Computer literate
      • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail
